steer popping pasterns

A friend of mine has a steer popping its pasterns when it walks. Any
ideas

Get his hooves trimmed. The guy I use says that will fix most of the problems

The reason most pop is because the heel on the hoof has grown to fast causing and uneven surface causing them to pop! Not saying its the case on this calf but why waste 100 of dollars on stuff when a simple hoof trimming would take care of it
