I am still looking for a market steer. It's so hard to find one around here! I did find 2 that I like. One is a Red Angus/Shorthorn cross, born April 9th. The other is 3/4 Charolais and 1/4 Limousin (I'm not sure when he was born, but must be around the same time). The first weigh in is in February (I think) and the fair is the first week of August.

The first 3 pictures are the Red Angus X, the next is the Charolais X's dam, and the last one is the Charolais X.  I'm kinda leaning towards getting the Red Angus cross.

Let me know what you think of them.

It is hard to tell by the pictures but the Char-x seems to have more bone and room to grow. You need to get some weights on the 2 and find out what the birth date is on the Char-x is. The Red Angus-x has less leather but looks to be finer boned. You might have to push an April calf to hit your August show but it can be done.

Try and get some better pictures, both a profile and a rear shot would help.

The red angus has more of a show look if it were me buying. It looks like you will have to work the hair but he has all the right parts. The picture of the Char X is not very flattering.

Im not sure if its just the pictures, but it doesnt look like these steers are show animals. If you plan to raise one for your county fair and make some money they might be fine, but I dont think that they are jackpot or winners circle material, obviously I dont know how competetive your fair is.

If I had to choose one, the red angus is better fronted and longer sided. I think that the char is a little straight looking off of those hind wheels and pretty trashy fronted. But both calves could still make you some money, they look like they both have plenty of growth to me. Good luck, but I would probably keep looking for a little while if I were you.

The Red Angus is about 450-500 pounds. The Charolais cross was born April 20th and is a little larger.

The steers are not show animals. I only plan on raising one for our county fair, which is not very competitive at all.

What kind of temperment do they have, unless there is a huge temperment issue, I'd go with the red angus.
