Personally, I believe Steerplanet has gone the way of other discusion forums and is past it's zenith. Surely you'all have noticed the change in posting/posters and, especially the degradation in grammar and spelling. You can make change, and change is not bad, but accept the fact that Steerplanet is not what it used to be.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I'm going to disagree with you. I think this site is 10 times better than any of the other sites out there. This is the only site that I post on, I go to Showsteers just to look at the breeders' sites. It does look like we have lost a lot of the original posters , but a lot of the newer ones have brought  lot to the table. As far as grammar/spelling goes , you can't blame that on the site. That's a result of poor education or too lazy to care.
I think the site is great & would be happy if nothing was changed.

Looks like we will probably leave it the way it is.  However, we can revisit this later if it becomes a problem with too many threads on the big show.

It would be helpful to have an off-topic forum. It would be easier to find topics where people are actually talking about cattle that way.

I love this board either way.

Hey, dont'  be so hard on Elbee--he's entitled to his opinion.  In fact, I agree with him that the "tone" (if that's a good word) has changed dramatically in the past year or so.  I've thought about it quite a bit and, to be really honest,  I can't quite put my finger on why it has changed.
I'm sure losing Red had a great effect on it but there seems to be even more to the equation. It does seem that many of the "senior" poster have either moved on to something else or have become more "lurkers" that poster.  I guess I can't say that I feel it has passed its zenith--perhaps its just that the average age of the people posting on SP has dropped dramatically and, understandbly, this changes the topics somewhat and also the "tone" or "feel" of the site.  I have to admit that I post less than I used to (no applause please) and I think this may be  true of many of the more "senior" members.  I still think this is the best cattle site going and I enjoy reading many of the posts.  I've learned a lot from many of the SP senior members and I appreciate the energy of the newer ones.  Frankly I think the success of SP is directly responsible for the demise of the other cattle sites.  Perhaps the changes are just a natural progression as a site matures but I hope that we don't lose the "mentoring"  feel that SP has always been know for.

I would like to say that my hat's off to Jason--I think you've done an excellent job with Steer Planet and I'm impressed that you continue to look for ways to improve it.    Jason--You Da Man!!

In ELBEE's defense, I do know Red was a big part of what made this board successful and was the mentor, leader, friend that kept many of the older posters here, this board hasn't been the same without her and never will be again, but I don't think that means it is doomed to fail as the other boards have.

Part of the reason that SP has changed in the past few months, may have something to do with many topics being discussed on here previously. I find that it is harder to come up with new topics that will get some debate going as many have been discussed once or more times before. You will notice that occasionally a newer member of the planet will ask a question, and almost immediately someone will tell them to search the archives. This would not have happened in the past, at least as much. I also think that Red had an amazing talent at thinking up new topics and keeping the forum interesting, and I really miss her on here. I think we should all try to pick up a part of what Red brought to this forum.

This is still the best forum I have found, and even though it has changed, it is still a very good place. I do not mind having non cattle related topics on here, in fact, I find many of them to be very interesting. Of course, some of them do not concern me, but I still enjoy seeing everyone express their opinions. As far as changing the forum... as has been said before... if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

i like the N/C moniker.

i also like ELBEE.

i think all the sites have reached their zenith.

i have saved most of my good natured debate venom for one individual not on this site to the delight of many here.

maybe some folks who have been married a long time can happy the place up a little.

I didn't have the usual voting option for some reason, but I would vote to leave it alone. How hard is it not to click on a subject that you don't want to read about? This site is priceless to me. It gets me through slow days, which there are too many of. I have learned so much from so many of you. Yes it has noticeably changed, but most things do. I think that with all of the new social networking web-sites available, that PPL's time gets distributed in many more ways all of the time. I'm sure that most of the members on the Planet are familiar with the cast well enough to know who's threads that they want to put merit in and those that they may want to question. I like all of the members and thank you all for taking the time to be a part of the Planet. Thank you Jason for giving us a free place to chat & discuss a wide array of topics. Brent

P.S. for those of us that care, click on spell ck for Elbee. It's the least that you can do. Lee, I don't know how to help out with the grammar. LOL.

I would vote for it, but for some reason it's not allowing me to vote.  I think you would have more off topic discussion if there was a spot for it.  Plus I think you'll find that as more members come along you will start to hear whining about what football has to do with cattle, etc.  That's just my opinion of course.

I went ahead and closed the vote, I didn't think that the "yay" option had a realistic chance of passing in the last day.  (unless we have any acorn workers here that are doing some recruiting)  ;D

Also must add we lost alot of soul when Red passed.Every time I see things get a little personal or get that bitter keen edge I think of her.
I might add that some champion posters have shown very shrewd restraint when viewing some of newer post. The forum does have a different feel than originally but it still beats the alternative!!
