I know this idea has kind of died out the past year, but is there still some interest in it? What would we need to do in order to start getting something together?

Maybe we could start with a list of people that would like to consign an animal. Then break down the area to find the best, centrally located place to have the sale. Get a committee together and start making this happen.

I also think we could all put in a certain percantage or even just a flat dollar rate for each calf that gets sold to put toward Red's Scholarship.

It would seem to me that the most logical way to present a Steerplanet sale would be to somehow have an online type of sale to help with all of the different locations that we come from. It should be possible to do.  Post pictures and videos of lots, list locations of the calves & see how well it is received. May be a nice outlet for some of us that just have 1 or 2 prospects that are good enough to sell. JMO about the online forum.

I agree with the online version.  I have been looking around for an open consignment online auction, but haven't found one, yet.  I would consign an animal or two, as well as some semen.  I also like the idea of a portion of the commission going for scholarship.

That would be my angle as well.

I would def be interested in one later of this fall or early spring. Just don't have a big enough number of calves to have our own....(not to hijack the thread but really been thinking bout having a sale later this year if I could get a group of cosigners together, PM me if interested.)

I have been apart of the beef industry most of my life, but just lately have had the opportunity to have my own herd.  As small as it may be, I would definitely be interested in participating both as a consigner and with the sale logistics.  Great idea, particularly for the smaller producers.  As a suggestion, might be a good idea to visit with a sale consultant to find out what needs to be done for statements regarding insurance, health requirements, guarantees, money transfer, trucking, etc.

Count me in!!! As of now I wont have anything to consign, but I may just depends. But I would definately be interested in helping to put this together, and I definately think it would be cool to have a percentage of the commision go to the Scholarship fund which I am also interested in being part of.
Just a question, where would the rest of the commision go if there were any left after covering the costs of the sale? Would they go to Steerplanet? If Jason doesnt need them for steerplanet, then why dont we just say that the commission goes to help cover the costs of the sale and anything left over goes to a scholarship fund.  If you do it that way then it may be possible to get sponsors to help cover the costs of the sale so that all of the commision could go to a scholarship fund.
