This is my first year showing steers, my steer is extremely calm, but when I try to walk him, he just stands there I have to pull on him to get him to move, but that doesn't always work.. Any suggestions on how to get him to walk?

1.Let him drag around a rope halter for a few days. When he steps on the end of the rope he will learn that he had to walk forward to relieve the pressure.
2.If possible tie him to a donkey. The donkey will pull him around and not let him go where he wants.
3.Have someone walk behind him to twist his tail to get him going.

When he stops and you are pulling on the halter, have someone walk closely towards and past you from front to back.  Once he moves forward let up the pressure and lead him to another part of the pen.  Repeat, repeat, repeat.  Cattle will naturally walk forward (past the advancing person) and he should associate the halter pressure and movement over time.

Try the lift, pull forward and release method, you lift, pull forward and release the pressure in short  quick burst. You do this until they move forward, then you release the pressure and move with him. To stop you pull back and apply constant pressure until they stop.
It has been my experience that you will not win to many tug of wars with a steer, so I try not to get in that situation.

Pull to the side and let him put the slack in.

As he does it release toward him w slack.

It's understanding, both on your part and his.
