I have an FFA student that has a calf that has turned stubborn.  Well, I think the steer has it all figured out is what the problem is.  She works with him quite often and he ties, brushes, washes, etc very quietly.  However, when she starts leading him he bolts and gets all wild.  Does anyone have any suggestions to fixing this problem besides a 2x4?!  Her dad isn't able to control him either.  Thanks in advance.

I am going to assume that this is near the end of the project, I would but him on about 40 3mg melatonin pills. I usually try and stop this behavior as soon as it starts by tying them with the head high just as soon as they act up. I have also used this on one or 2, I would put a second rope that is about 20 feet long and tie it fast to something and when he starts to act up and gets to running and fighting I would say in a loud voice "whoa" just as he hits the end of the second rope, you just need to make sure yo  set it up so you are free of the second rope. It worked on the calves we had to use it on.

Sullivans has a breaking halter that is like a ring around the nose. When he takes off u crack it on his nose and he will usally stop after a couple hours.a rinng in his nose is the best way to ensure he doesnt get away and doesnt hurt anyone.

Second the metal ring halter. As stated this is a behavior you have to break by finding a way to make him think he can't get away from you. Maybe work with him in a smaller area where he really cant get away for a while. Set him up for success.

See if there is an animal chiropractor in your area.  He may have a catch in his neck and when she pulls on the lead it hurts him.  Given the fact that he led at one time and now doesn't it may be some type of injury or pinched nerve.  G-Luck
