I have a Turton heifer out of a Hoo Bear / Dsul Who da queen cow. Will be breeding her in next few months. Looking for suggestions for heifer safe bull to hopefully get a nice showable heifer. She is registered as a low Chi.

Anyone have luck with sexed semen?
I've got along just as well with it as I have conventional semen (% conception wise) , granted it's been on as much smaller sample ...

Just wondering - would love to get out of the ORB division. Our heifer is 10.5% Maine and 16.2% Angus, 4.03 Chi and 69.19% other. I know Maines require 75% to be a full blood, is there any way to beeed this heifer to get the offspring out of ORB?

You are going to have to search far and wide to find a bull that is 100% Maine.  Everyone that I searched is not.

I really don't know so I guess I am asking, doesn't the association consider 7/8s blood as purebred so would a 7/8s bull work?

I also have had good luck using sexed semen. Usually using it on virgin heifers.

A 7/8 Maine is called a purebred. If you breed your cow to a purebred bull, the offspring will be a 50% Maine(known as a Maintainer). The female offspring mated to a purebred bull will be a 3/4 Maine and eligible to show in the Maine class. You would need to have both offspring  be female to get to Maine classification for heifer show, 4 year process.  Any steer or heifer 1/4 Maine and up can show as a Maintainer in most shows.

As to sires, there are few purebred sires I would recommend at this time.  I-80, Hard Drive, Mercedes Benz are maybe the most consistent.

This a text that I sent out yesterday to some people that I lean on to lend an ear regularly. We were visiting about a mating for a Firewater Texas Hold'em heifer.

I80, Comfort Zone, Set Me Free, Frisky Whiskey, And Mercedes Benz would make my short list. Maybe should consider Daddy's Money. That was the exact text that I sent out. I don't really care about the percentages of MA. We are a Xbred herd and I couldn't care less about qualifications for show rings. I just want the best possible offspring.
