I had a large Heatwave bull calf on Sunday that paralyzed the cow (my fault, ET calf that was too big for the recip to have).  After days of working with the cow and sending the calf to the vet, I have concluded that the cow is not getting up and I have a vet bill invested in the calf.  The calf is pretty good, but will not turn out if he is not on a cow.  I have been looking around trying to find a cow that has lost her calf but have been unable to find one (with the right timing).  Does anyone have suggestions or has anyone ever put a orphan calf on a dairy cow (some people say they will take a calf easier).

We had two calves to feed this year so I went to all the neighboring dairy farms and found a cow with a high somatic cell count and therefore her milk could not go in the tank. The farmer told us to take her and that the calves might suck this problem out of her(?) One calf sucked immediately and the other within the hour. She is now the most protective cow we have, won't let the calves out of her sight!
