Long story short, my brother wants to be a contender at some bigger shows and I can get him the calves to do so. But I just want to show him what it will take everyday day in and day out work wise. So what is your daily routine as far as washing, blowing, feeding, brushing, putting in cool room? Thanks, I dont think he believes me when I tell him what it'll take <beer>!

My son 11, starts at 6am brings heifers in and feeds, rinses, brush, blows and puts under fans. He has 4 head right now so he gets done at about 9am most days he then goes back out at lunch 12 and rinses brush and blows then at about 5 he rinses brush and blows and the feeds and turns out and he also cleans barn each time he is out. We homeschool so we work our schedule around it. He spends alot of time working heifers and rinsing them. But we live in Mississippi and it is HOT! And we do not have a cool room so the rinsing and the brushing are a must! But he loves it and works hard at it. Good Luck it can be done but it is alot of hard work

We start about 6 am by putting the calves on the walk rack attached to the tractor.  Husband walks them for 30 min to an hour depending on how much time we have and how hot it is.  My daughter and I clean our pens and the cool room.  She gets feed pans ready and fills the hay bags.  After they are walked, they get rinsed, brushed, and blown dry.  Then they get rotobrushed on body and legs.  Finally we turn them out in their pens with feed pans until around 9.  Then they go into the cooler for the day.  Daughter will go periodically throughout the day and check on them.  She puts their hay bags in around noon and also scoops manure everytime she goes to the barn.  We turn out around 9-10 depending on the heat.  We are blessed with really hairy calves, so rinsing and blowing in the morning seems to be enough for us.  However, school starts next week and we are still up in the air on what our new routine will be.
