What kind of vaccination program do you guys run for your sale?

we use a vaccination protocol set up by a vetrinarian. All the bulls are vaccinated at weaning or preferably before weaning with Cattlemaster 4  and 8 way.  They are also given at least a 7 or 8 way vaccination at pasture time in the spring. I know some of the consignors also give attentional vaccinations at pasture time as well. The bulls are given a booster vaccination of Cattlemaster 4  once they are on feed. They are also treated twice during the winter with Ivomec pour on. First Ivomec is given in late November, second is given in February.

Are you giving out free rubber boots at the sale?  If we come we will pack ours. The ground is not too bad around there but with all this snow is should be alittle sloppy

I would suggest that if you have rubber boots that you bring them to the sale... and if you have extra pairs of them, bring them as well. I expect you will be able to rent them out and pay for  yoru trip to the sale. The mud is pretty deep, and we are trying to do everything we can, to make it easier for people to get to the bulls and to keep the bulls dry. What we don't need now for the next week is more snow or rain.. we are usually getting dry by now, but this year we have a super mess.

Would that vaccination protocol preclude these bulls from passing health tests for semen collection/export?  I always been under the impression that if bulls are vaccinated they will show positive for antibodies which would cause them to fail health tests (can't tell if they really had it or the vaccine)...  Not that I really know what all the test for, and what all is in the 4 and 8 way vaccines...

Absoluetely no problem to any countries except tio the Eurpean union and then it would only be an IBR Titre. Europe requires semen to be from IBR negative sirees, yet they allow embryos to go theri from IBR posititive bulls. Any animal that is vaccinated for IBR will be IBR positive. All other counrtries is no prob lem

Does that include Lepto?  I assume the vaccine you are using does not contain that as I know that can cause problems.  Just the BVD's, IBR, PI3, BRSV then in the 4-way??  What is in the 8-way to get that many... is that the black leg and cloisidiral etc?

Thanks for the info, really appreciate it.  Good luck with the sale, they look like a very good set :)

we don't have to vaccinate for Lepto here. We are told that our climate is to cold for Lepto to exist. I have no idea if this is totally correct or not, but then \I never heard of a case here either

Any luck getting any videos yet?

We got the videos done on Sunday, and my wife Chris has been working ever since to get them uploaded . Murphy's law has been in full control, as the tower we get our internet from, went down on Sunday and did not get back until yesterday morning. She then started uploading the video to Photobucket and got about half the bulls uploaded when they closed their site for maintenance. Last night she tried to upload the video to YouTube, and I'm not sure what the problem was but she was having major trouble. Chris was up early this morning to try again, and PhotoBucket is still down for maintenance and right now she has about 2/3 of the video uploaded on another video website called Dropshots.com. We're hoping to have them all online in the next couple hours. I will put a link on here and on our websites when it is completed.

It was a challenge getting the videos done as we are experiencing the wettest spring in recent memory, and we have lots of mud, but I hope you will be able to get a better idea of what the bulls look like from these short videos.

I spent a couple hours yesterday trying to find hip waders with a snorkle attachment. Apparently they don't make such a thing!  It will be a challenge holding a bull sale in these conditions, but I have also had bull sales when it was so dry the trees were chasing the dogs. Wet trumps dry every time!

The flooding in eastern Alberta has slowed down with the cooler temperatures. Is it any better in Saskatchewan?

The flooding is still the worst here in at least 40 -50 years. Lots of roads washed out. I had a panic attack yesterday when I found out that there was no way to get to the Tim Hortons ( Coffee shop). Snowed again last night and more forecast for the next two days. I am becoming a big believer in global warming! Al Gore, if you could be this wrong, thank God you never became President!
