What can i feed to make my cattle gain weight quick? Judges are saying they need more condition but i dont want to make them to fat(had a kid loan a calf from us and he fed her so much that she was in the pasture for 8 months before she bred). Id like to use more of a diy supplement vs. paying an arm and a leg for name brand things.

A cheap way to add some condition is to cook some barley. You can buy barley pretty cheap and cook a cup or two in a crockpot over night and one during the day for the night feeding. We did this to put some more condition on a heifer. Good about it is you can control how much she gets. We had good success with it and she bred quickly, but we like you are didn't want to get her too fat. There are obviously the supplements you can buy, but I feel this was a more natural alternative.
