It all depends on the genetics and if the history of those are for easy feeders and good growers or not.  We got lucky last year with a 2010 May calf that ended up winning out 2011 July county fair.  We normally look for March or early April calves but this one just grew like gangbusters.    Proper care and feeding makes a huge difference

If they have the genetics and you feed and manage right they will make it. You can have a
Jan,Feb , March not  make it if they are do not have all these things going for them.

YUP tried it this year with a June 23 twin heifer.I thought if she was a true freemartin and out of two growthy parents i could get her to weight no probs........DID NOT WORK,she started strong but when we got into warm weather and than hot as hell weather she wouldn't eat,she started mowing into feed about the mid August point but is pushin it to hit 1100 lbs now.
