I've read alot of directions on how to creat a "tear drop" but I just cant seem to get my mind around it and pull it off. Does anyone have an pics or something that can help me understand it?

One fellow told me to think about the shape of a banana when clipping. From point of jaw down to point of shoulder down to hoof on front. Sort of the same on the hind quarter from tailhead down to hock and then a mirror image on the front side of hind quarter. Look at the Captain Morgan bull at the top of this page : his hind quarter looks better to me like it is but some calves look better with the tear drop which could be done like I said above. At least what I've described is what I think you are talking about. We clipped one of our steers for the state show a couple of years ago and put the teardrop on him and it looked awesome. I'll try to find that pic to see if that's what you are looking for. Hope this helps. Also that banana idea works good on the belly of some heifers from the brisket back to the flank.

Are you talking about how you clip the hair on the leg down short at the hock to make their hip look bigger? I've always done that but I didn't know it was called a teardrop.

This is how I was taught. Just rat your calf's tail out and get it as big as possible, then put a pretty good coat of tail adhesive on it and form it with your hands into the desired shape.

take and gather the outer layer of hair in the switch. rat the other hair while u hold the outer layer up. Use lots of tail adhesive, then form the shape with the hair on the outside and use glue as needed for the  hold

Girls tend to be really good at balling tails. I personally don't like big tails though....smaller tails me them look bigger hipped, but a big tail can hid some things.

This is how i like it done... Start by combing out the tail, then peel away all the outside hair of the switch( take more than you think you will need) then take that hair that you peeled away and have someone hold it up, rat the inside hair use alot of tail adhessive to form the switch to your liking, then take the hair you held up and comb it to where you get it spread evenly around the ball and use alot of tail adhesive your prolly gonna have to cut off some extra on the bottom. Remember the bigger the ball the more it takes away from the quarter and the smaller it is the more it adds to the quarter.

Actually the tear drop is a lot easier than the ball thing that we used to do.  IMO.

Rat the inside tail good as others have said.  Once you get the tail adhesive in, it is mostly a matter of shaping it.  One key thing to remember is that you can squish it smaller if it is too big but hard as heck to make it big again once you've compressed it.  So take your time and step back to look at what you have.
