I have a 14 year old son who wants to learn to clip and fit! He has won our district fitting contest 2 years! He has been to a few Stock Show U clinic at Jr Nationals but he would love to work one on one or go to a week long clinic! We live in Mississippi. Can anyone tell me our best options. He loves to stand and watch at shows but he is ready for the next step!

Just do it! I was the same age when I started clipping and fitting. And did the exact same thing he did by watching and asking questions. I started at Fort worth open show my people didn't show up and I had to. Sure it won't look the same as everyone else but that's the growing pains nobody wakes up and does great at it there's going to lost hair and lots of frustration till he gets it down once he does its easy and you'll wonder how it ever took so long to figure it out.

Be A Champ show camp in Warner OK.  They will have three different cattle sessions starting in June.  Your son can bring his own calf. They teach them clipping, fitting, and showing.  My daughter has been for severeral years and the McPeaks are awesome.  She is going back as a helper this summer.

I have a call in to get more info on the camp! It is about 500 miles from us but sounds like it would be worth it! Now to find out if they have any space available!

id have to agree with Mainevent ..... you can only learn so much from so many different people teaching you so many different things. trial and error .... best advice I can give is find 1 person.... you start listening to too many people and you don't learn much... every clipper clips different and will tell you to forget what the last person showed you. Sounds like he is already in the right direction.... just tell him to roll with it.... he will be happier in 5 years for it!

I think you just have to find the style and way you clip by piecing what you like and how you like a calf to look. At the same time you have to keep an open mind if someone that's been doing it longer suggests something don't just say no look at what they are trying to show you.
