TH and PHA in correlation with quality

I used a warhorse grandson a couple years before the th deal was figured out. He went to salebarn. He left me with some carrier daughters. I used a homegrown suds son till the pha was figured out. He went to salebarn. He left me a couple pha cows. I like the moderate frame and fleshing ability of the club calf stuff. I tested 24 heifer calves this fall for th and pha. I had one th carrier and 1 pha carrier. There was a couple years where kids came in and picked calves before I could test them(i told em up front there could be carriers) and to a t the all picked out carriers. This kinda help me weed them out without really trying. There is a definite"look" to carriers. That was a test in my mind, as far as being able to tell the difference visually. Sodhouse donna 405 had a couple pha calves. One bull calf I just loved. We de-weinered him. Thats why I wonder if pha has a "look" to them. The bull calf was shorter bodied full bodied.I'm a hypocrit, a unpleasant person, what ever you want to call me. I don't take myself so seriously I can't laugh at myself. I say what I think. To hell with politcal correctness. I had one deformed th calf I took to the Oakley vet where 7 vets got a look at him..hernia,deformed legs and all first hand. I love club calf people, I love club calf people. You are right sodhouse little big mans mother was a th carrier. The key is to test I guess. I thought the debate was pretty civil. I apologize.

Everyone seems so interested in telling everyone, or suggesting, how to run their cow herd. The well managed, well run cow herds, whether it be clubbie or commercial, will stay in business, the rest will go by the wayside.  Unless of coarse they are 'floated' by an outside source.

Breed 'em clean if you wish. Test and manage if you wish, or, take your chances 'ridin' dirty.

Until all the shows are slick, I don't see TH leaving soon. jmo

No hostility here. Above is my point exactly. Use what works for your program and use safe practices. Carrier genetics did offer positive traits at one time beside the obvious lethal defects.

A flow chart for managing strictly clean vs carrier herds...

1 - Do you allow carrier cows in your herd?

Yes?  Go to 2.

No?  Go to 3.

2 - Is the cow you are breeding a carrier?

Yes?  Go to 3.

No?  Go to 4.

3 - Use only non carrier bulls.

4 - Use any bull you want.

I find it quite interesting when looking at progeny from the Stinger line. I have yet to see PHAF status cattle tracing back to Stinger that was of interest as to being anything special. All the high profile/semen sellers seem to be 100% carriers unless they have the TH variable working. Does this seem a little odd or just a coincidence? Warhorse, Double Stuff or Checks In The Mail to name a few.
