just buy a monopoly steer and ask the seller if they will guarantee he's a carrier with a dna test.

i really don't get the whole breeding carrier thing hoping for one that's clean that looks like he's a carrier when you can just buy one and don't have to go to all the trouble.

Has your cow been tested? Everyone has their own opinion, but mine is I would never breed a carrier to carrier, to much risk. On the other hand I have no problem breeding a carrier to a non carrier.  The only risk in breeding a carrier to a non carrier is that your calf has a 25% chance of being a carrier, but being a carrier doesnt affect one in any negative manner, other than you need to test it to see if its a carrier if you plan on breeding.
Monopoly throws some really good steers, he has definately made his mark.  At the same time he throws really nice heifers as well.  He throws them deep and chubby and thick.  My only knock on him is he may be a little small framed, and he can throw them a little on the smaller framed side.  Thats what was winning everything for a while which is why he is so popular, but my personal belief is we are gonna see a trend to a more average framed calf in the show ring.  But as long as you arent breeding him to a small framed cow you should be fine.

based on your lack of knowledge in the question n, please avoid TH carriers

Zack how do you know that the cow he is going to be breeding isn't a TH carrier?  that was never stated so his question might be a very reasonable question. and if she is clean and the poster is just unaware of how TH and PHA works then is there any better place to learn about it then right here on steerplanet?

To the orignal poster: Monopoly seems to be a great bull siring many champions at the moment on a free cow I wouldn't be nervous at all. On a dirty cow I wouldnt take the risk to many awesome th and pha free bulls out there. Good luck.

I don't know and i'd venture to guess show sister doesn't either. Look at the question. Obviously (and in no way am I bashing here  :)  )theres a misunderstanding of how TH works. Just breeding to a TH bull in its self does nothing. Breeding a THC to a THC cow is gonna cause problems as most of us know. I'm just saying if there is uncertainty in her cow it is in her best interest to avoid THC bulls not only for her own good ( what if the cow is THC) and to those who she could possibly sell to unaware of the issue.

:)

All the information on TH and PHA can be found if you do a simple search on here, show sister.

People don't use the search enough.  There is lots of good info on this site from people who don't post anymore.

Should read.....The only risk in breeding a carrier to a non carrier is that your calf has a 50% chance of being a carrier

I think she meant never thought about using the search tool......

Hate to say it but some people are starting to fill the Cut the BS void that has been so enjoyable.  Zach, there was no reason for you to say "based on your lack of knowledge in the question n, please avoid TH carriers" to someone who is trying to learn what this whole thing is about.  You could have simply stated what you have later posted that there are good posts on this board about the topic and there is an awesome search tool that people don't use enough.

showsister, I have a good relationship with people who are in the know about this very topic.  If the older posts can't answer any of your questions, please feel free to contact me and if I don't know the answer, I can help point you to someone who does.
