We use Jakes Proud Jazz, and doesn't give up quality either.

I would suggest Hillside Leader, the bull we purchased possession and half semen interest from the Bales Family in Tennessee. I do not have any calves yet, but the Bales family are very high on his calves. So far, all his calves have been born unassisted with BWs in the low 70s. Leader himself had a 70 lb BW and an actual WW of 666 and a YW of 1189, so he has some performance along with a low BW. So far, all his calves have been dark colored and polled. He is TH and PHA free as well.

We have semen at Hawkeye Breeders, Adel, IA as well as in Canada and Australia. Semen is priced in the US at $25 / straw in multiples of 5.

The best one for us is Gizmo. Consistent and he is worry free. I know folks have used JPJ but for our cow mix he just didn't click as we expected. Gizmo added lots of body. He did not add frame or bone.

I'm not a shorthorn guy but what about A&T CAPTAIN OBVIOUS 606S?  I have a sim-angus heifer that I was thinking of breeding to a shorthorn bull and was thinking that this bull might work.

I agree with Gizmo-Wymore is just as good (gizmo son) and $15 per straw. I have had good luck also with ALM Chiller-he is proven-and used heavily.

i am anxious to see how he stacks up to his poppa.

I think Captain Obvious would also be a great choice. He is on my short list for next spring.

KL Double Duty, RS ROB are the two best bw bulls that I know of.  You could also through in Buster 2nd, Caption, jazz, JR Legacy 23G, and a few others.

In the last month we have had more sim/angus matings to Captain.?? We should have actual shear force tenderness results on Captain Obvivous soon.
To comment on the original post : Very few times I will use a bull without a long look at the dam but a few bloodlines mentioned in this post are just flat divas and the entire program behind would reflect why the bulls breed the way they do> Ok so I have a runon sentence??

Muridale Buster 14K - his dam wass a bomb and his sons breed better then himself- take a look at Buster 2nd, no "back up crew calving at Muri's and they are celebrating a 100 yrs this weekend.

GFS Red Cloud 7026- bred naturally spring/fall until he was 11 and so did his sire JG Red Cloud. Good Family Shorthorns are Angus breeders too and 7026 was one of many sons of JG red cloud sold. Harold Bertz has line bred this and he will tell it only gets better. Also the sire of Captain

KL Double Duty- I dont know if he's dead yet ?? But Lovings have stacked til that cannot. You will not see Lovings in the make up ring at any national purple ribbon show?? The web page has a list of bulls for sale

Rob Sneed anything - RS 034. ST 269  very focused program list of Breed leading Calving ease genetics goes on and on. This guy talks funny but his pjs  are on during calving season. His herd is about 300+

So dont be confused about the JAKE'S PREFIX IN FRONT OF jAZZ > IT'S OHLDE AND i BET THIS BULL jAKES' PROUD jAZZ WILL BE THE NUMBER ONE AI SIRE AGAIN FOR SHORTHORN

Gizmo is short for ELBee Improver---- ask if you cannot find it. I prefer his deep sided son WYmore.

GUARANTEED LIVE CALF-Not to be left behind in this rather shameless arena of self promotion-where the proclomations of greatness know no bounds I present Panama Red-proven hiefer bull-nice hiefer calves (hes a Cumberland xRose x Full sib to DMCC LTD Edition) the bull calves are small-grow like weeds-but are not very good.
