I am sad to say that Shawn Berg from Berg Family Shorthorns, Osage Iowa, lost his battle with Cancer at 3am this morning.
He leaves his wife, and two young daughters. Shawn's  Grandmother passed away last week.
Very tough blow for this wonderful family.
It's been a rough 8 days for the cattle industry losing such fine men. Please keep all three of their families in your prayers.

Oh, wow, that's really terrible. I met Berg's at Jordan Acres' sale this fall, and they were great to talk to.  They will be in my prayers as well.

This is an especially rough holiday season.  I'll be glad when 2008 is over.

Shawn had an extremely rare form of Cancer. In fact the doctors called it the Shawn Berg Cancer. Very aggressive, fast form of Cancer. They never did find the starting point. His poor wife Liz, and his Mother losing her Mother, and Shawn in less than a week. Seems more than a person's heart can take. If any of you want to read his journal it is on the Caring Bridge web site. Just type in Shawn Berg. It is VERY touching.

I really hate to hear about Shawn. Very good family & good people. It's tough losing a family member at any time, but really rough during the Holidays. I lost my mom on Dec. 29th , 11 years ago.

Very, Very sad news.  The Berg's are a great family and they've put up a great fight against this awful disease.

I feel particularly bad for them because  not only do I count them as my friends in the industry but, having had every member of my immediate family fight this disease in their own bodies at one time or another, I understand how debilitating this can be on the whole family.  I'm glad Shawn's pain is over, though, and I know he'll be there in spirit while Grampa Kendrick and his brothers help the girls show those good Shorthorn cattle.

I also knew Doris Nagle(Shawn's grandmother)--they used to be our neighbors and I've know her sons since high school.  It's a tough double loss for them as well--mother and nephew within a week.

Please,  Keep them all in your prayers!!  I know I will!!

My sympathies go out to the Berg families. I first met Shawn when he was a very young boy and I stayed at the Berg's when I was delivering cattle there. Several years passed and I had the opportunity to have a very good visit with Kendrick and Shawn at the Jordan Acres sale in September. This family has been through so much, with Kendrick's parents killed in a car accident several years ago.

I have watched friends who have suffered immensely with cancer, and have come to realize that sometimes there are things that are worse than death.... one of which is suffering in great pain, when there is no cure.
