I admire the australian shorthorn breeders with just how many easy doing, high yielding and in general very sound honest cattle they produce. They produce some exceptional cattle. Looks like they are working well in your herd Okotoks!  (thumbsup)

I feel the Aussie breeders have got performance testing and recording down to a fine art and that the North Americans could take a lesson from them with regard to whole herd performance recording.
I like the way that ASA is promoting WHR by withholding performance data on non-conforming herds, it can only do the breed good.
Will be very interesting to see what the figures show when the BISS Element progeny are recorded in Australia. I currently try to cross reference Spry's All Gold D052, as I have progeny, and he has figures on both sides of the Pacific, and it is very interesting!
Australia, like North America, has a large gene pool and you should be able to find suitable genetics regardless of what you want to do.
Okotoks, those Aussie calves look to be developing beautifully, I like them.

Thanks Duncraggan we are optimistic these genetics will work for us. We have 28 heifers bred to Diamond Lord Belmore 56B. Jaimie flushed her Diamond Whitney Maid 14W cow to The Grove Kookaburra W735 last week and got 9 embryos, 2 of which were implanted. She also has a pregnancy form Pakaraka Legend's Rose by The Grove Kookaburra W735 from embryo's she purchased from JIT. We are also AIing the flush cows to Diamond Belvedere and flushing Eionmor Lily 39S to him in a couple of weeks. Lord Belmore is pictured here at just over 14 months after being with 40 heifers for 6 weeks.

Looks to have good length. Is he horned or scurred?
He is scurred, I would prefer smooth polled but I've never had any problems selling scurred bulls so it's kind of low on my selection list.

I don't discriminate against horned cattle, in fact, about 25% of my calves are horned! Although I have not introduced horned genetics since some Irish bulls in 2008, I tend to keep 50/50 horned/polled bulls from a phenotypic aspect.

Well it's early days but the first Diamond Lord Belmore 56B calf has arrived. She was 70 lbs. unassisted out of a Diamond Zulu 3Z daughter, Diamond Bedazzling Maid 64B. 64B won't be 2 until April 20th but is a really good mother. 56B is photographed yesterday at 22 months.

Thanks Duncraggan! I really like the way he has developed. Here is a photo I had on this thread earlier when he was a calf and two from yesterday. He always has a look at me attitude (thumbsup)

I looked up Pakaraka Legends Rose A005 and those should be exciting embryos by The Grove Kookaburra W735!  Here is her photo. I see she already has a couple of Kookaburra's on the ground at Sprys.
Jaimie got a bull calf 90 lbs in -12 degrees (10F) he is sired by The Grove Kookaburra W735 and out of Pakaraka Legend's Rose. This calf was bred by Sprys shorthorns and purchased from Grant's Frozen In Time sale.(the calf probably thought he was still frozen in time on arrival!) Recip dam 1087 is a 4 year old Shorthorn X Simmental

I am really excited with the Diamond Lord Belmore 56B calves. They are all out of two year old heifers and are developing well so far. It's an exciting calf crop this year. We are running 63% bulls so far. The two heifers pictured here are by 56B.

Isn't that nature's sign of a good season ahead?

I had never heard of that, hopefully it is right because we are extremely dry and any rain or even snow would be welcome about now!

How are the Diamond Lord Belmore 56B females looking? I see it appears he's being used around the globe.

Two of his bull calves, 74 & 75 pounds, hit the ground here this morning out of a Studer's Taylor Made and Saskvalley Imagine 65x daughter. Very impressed with their vigor. By far the fastest calves up and to the udder thus far.

We have been very pleased with the Diamond Lord Belmore 56B calves. They have been averaging almost 9 lbs lighter than our other calves and we have had good demand for the bulls. A daughter was the top selling bred heifer at The All Star Classic last fall.We only had a few heifer calves by him in his first calf crop but have some lovely yearling heifers. I had a bad management moment and that 2D heifer above calved at 16 months with a 62 lb bull calf. I will attach photos of those two above the one with her calf at foot. The first two calves I have heard of born in Ireland weighed 77 lbs(heifer) and 83lbs (bull) one from a second calver the other from a fifth calver. The red and white heifer was the high seller, she is out of a Diamond Zulu 3Z cow. The bull pictured is Diamond Dynamite 6D on pasture last summer with some yearling heifers. He is a Diamond Lord Belmore 56B son out of a daughter of Diamond Xplosion 23X. His dam was a two year old when she had him. She is pictured below with her second calf at Agribition where she weighed 1400 lbs. We are reallylooking forward to Dynamite's calves.
