71#'s Northern Improvement Heifer calf out of a first calf heifer 3C Macho x WMW/Angus dam.
Not very good pics. She is about 18 hours old in the pics. Has a pretty distinct number7 on her forehead.

Is that Bojo a little straight?  Do you have anymore of them?  Was curious on how they looked?

It's just the picture, he has plenty of flex to his legs. This is the only one we have. He has loads of muscle, it will be interesting to see him fill out. He is pretty leggy also but that's probably because of his mom.

I had a Sunseeker first calf heifer calve 4 days ago. The calf is a heifer out of Silverias El Capitan and weighed about 65 pounds. My problem is the Sunseeker heifer seems to have very little milk. Her udder is wrinkled in the back suggesting size for expansion and her teats are normal size. The milk just seems to never have come in. The calf nurses, gets milk on its nose and is running around full of energy. My question is, "Is this typical of Sunseekers?" The dam of the Sunseeker heifer has a tremendous amount of milk. Any info would be appreciated.

We have a Sunseeker/Charolais heifer that calved last year, her bag was almost non-existant, and had the wrinkled look that you talked about. She never seemed to get a bigger bag, but the calf seemed to get along just fine and she weaned him at 550 pounds with no creep, he was green but more than acceptable at our place for a first-calf heifer. Hope this helps you out.

we had a huge naughty pine calf today, probably 140lbs, 12 days late. he fell in the creek and we saved him. don't know if he'll make it through the night. he's painted up pretty good though.

He is still alive and doing better by the day.  <beer>

That makes me feel better about her. The calf seems to be getting all the milk she wants. I really appreciate your reply.

So far kinda boring. I have a Shiver x Sun Seeker bull that is thick but has no length of body and a Paddy Omally bull that looks better than his full brother did last year. Anyone else have any Shiver calves on the ground?

What are the odds of getting a calf marked like this out of Dreamcatcher and a Reg. Angus cow? He was born on the due date and I double check straws after breeding so he is a Dreamcatcher. I just thought it was odd to get this marked up of a calf. The other calf pictured is a Heifer out Dreamcatcher and an Angus and that is what I expect them to be marked like.lol

Calving is so far.. so good. 22 have calved and 23 calves. One set of twins and one of them was dead on arrival. The dead calf was a heifer twin to a bull calf. Right now, of the 22 running around, we have 11 bulls and 11 heifers, so it could not be more even. So far all have been unassisted and I have not had to touch any or help any get started nursing. They have been very vigorous and healthy at birth. Just the way I like it!
Last spring I implanted 9 embryos sired by the last Shorthorn herd sire at Remitall Cattle Company, a bull named Pheasant  Creek Leader 4th. IMO, Leader 4th was the best of the Leader line in the Shorthorn breed. I got lucky and had 7 pregnancies of which 5 have now calved. All 5 are bulls, all are solid red, and polled and their BWs have been between 75 and 88 lbs. The heaviest one at birth was the first born which seems a little strange. These calves are from two different donors but they are almost identical. It will be interesting to watch them grow this summer. I am hoping the last two are heifers. These two flushes used the only remaining semen from this sire, so I am hoping for a couple heifers. I still have a few more embryos in the tank which will be implanted this spring. The ultrasound last August indicated that the two that haven't calved yet were both heifers, so we will see how accurate he was. So far, the only mistake he has made is in saying that one of the recips had not kept the embryo and was bred later. This recip was the second of these to calve.

Normally, I would say that bull calves go longer term than heifers, but that does not seem to carry through with ET calves. I have experienced ET heifers being born 7-10 days after their male full sibs on several occasions.

That 2nd calf is really neat. What percent simmi is she?

Thanks. She is a halfblood simmi. For the past 2 years I have bred all my reg. Angus to Dreamcatcher trying to get replacements.

Awesome. Do you have any side profile pics of her? What is dreamcatchers pedigree? I just knew he was a simmi.

I will try and get some profile pics. He is a Dream On x Subzero x 734.

Is it possible he carried a spotting gene?
