I have a show heifer out of Dirty Harry and Majors Money Man x Aviator.      I have bred her to Jesse James.  The heifer is ecoming real straight on legs.  What are thoughts on keeping her or sending her on her way??    Am I asking for a train wreck next year with her passing on those straight legs??  Thanks for any input.

Yeah...that's a real judgment call and really difficult to give input or opinions without a picture or a video of an animal we can't see for ourselves. In general, unsound cattle do not improve with age or weight. Soundness issues usually become more apparent, not less of an issue. And they're extreme, they're really hard to breed your way out of. It's like a hole in the ground...the deeper it is, the harder it is to get out of it! The best advice is try not to fall into the hole in the first place!

First of all, just because one has straighter than desirable rear legs doesn't make them unsound.  If that were the case, everything out of JPJ would be labeled "unsound."  I bred some JPJ granddaughters to a bull with what I would consider excessive set to his rear legs.  Now Im not one to bred extremes hoping for somewhere in the middle, but that is exactly what I got- calves that have near perfect set to their rear legs.

Personally I would care more about temperament...as long as its not so bad that she is buckling over I would breed her outside the clubby mix and put some leg back in her.
