My local ABS rep. had some stuff in his tank that he would give me a great deal on.  I have a couple PB angus 2nd calf cows that I want to breed to a simmy bull.  Here are four that I am considering and wanted to know if you have any experience with them and which one you think would be a good shot.  All are calving ease and had great carcass merit stats.  As for what I would like - good replacement heifer and possibly a nice 4-H steer for the kids.

Dream on has been used about everywhere, and it will make stylish females for.  If you don't plan on breeing back Simmental, and it was a good deal go for it. Was #1 registration bull
I also like the Ellingson Legacy bull, won't pretty them up much, but should throw some base width, and are productive cattle.

Both bulls are deceased and have been widely used, and for good reason.
The other two I haven't used.

What's his deal on dream om???  Maybe he can ship some semen to my abs rep lol....  I actually haven't used any of those bulls but just recently bought two purebred dream on daugthers and they are both very deep and have some muscle to them.  I think they will make great half-bloods with one particular herd bull I have???  Have some in-focus daughters I would breed to him if the semen didn't cost $$$$  Ellingson's legacy (Olie) i have heard can throw some quality calves but I have no first hand experience although I seriously considered using him this year for that reason but  theres too many bulls to choose from and I don't have  enough cows.

Dream On...outstanding bull.   Pricey semen now that the bull has passed.  I just purchased 2 straws at $106 each.   I have two own daughters of DO and love them!

Star throws some real lookers!   I bought four Star heifers last year, and I'm pleased with 3 of them.   The fourth is flighty, but the other three are very cool customers... and I would certainly consider him.

Sure Bet....I do not have any experience with him, but I really do look what I have seen, and will probably use him heavily next year.   Good EPDs

No experience on the Olie bull.   Good reputation though.

I had simmi breeders tell me Dream On really took the milk out of a cow.  Anyone else have this same experience?

So just found out Olie and Dream on are way over $100 a straw. So out of my league.  Thought I was going to sneak one by my rep, but I guess not.  Have been hearing really good things about Star.  A breeder I met at a recent show said all his best cows are out of him.  And he will also throw a good 4-H steer here and there.  I'm really thinking about him. Thanks for the comments

Commercial cow-calf operation here - NOT into the show or clubby thing, so I can't comment on that aspect.  Aiming to produce POUNDS of beef - while also producing a QUALITY product.
We've been using the Sure Bet bull for a couple of seasons, on some older % Simmental cows - and have a few ANxSH heifers that we've bred to him(no calves from them yet).
Picked him for his balance of traits - good calving ease(and it's real!), decent WW/YW, high marbling and ribeye, high shear force epd(tenderness!), top API and TI indices.  Most of these cows have some Holstein back a ways in their background, so I LIKE the lower milk epd.
Think you'll be pleased with Sure Bet daughters out of Angus cows

The calving ease is real.  Daughters look good - so far, all are keepers.  The steers wean off heavier than most of their Angus-sired cohorts.
Dispositions are good.  Kept a son out last spring's crop, for potential use as a 'terminal' cleanup bull.
Plan to come back on the Sure Bet daughters with sons of Hooks Shear Force 38K - Triple C Bettis and Triple C Singletary(while my supply of semen holds out - Genex rep told me that he's no longer producing, and looks like he's not coming back).

I'd looked at the Olie bull, and still might use him at some time(but not above $30/straw).  ABS needs to get a new photo - the one they have would scare most folks away from him(noassatall) - I've seen mature photos, and he looks much better.  Main thing that kept me away was his 4.0 frame score - I used a 4.0 Angus bull and he 'downsized' my cows TOO much!  Still think I'd go with Sure Bet over Olie on mature cows, unless you're trying to shrink the next generation.  And the price is reasonable.

After completely screwing off at work today, reading, looking at pics and EPD'sI think I'm down to either Circle T Antoinettes Star or Grandmaster.

lol, you and I are in the same boat. I sold him the heifer, she is out of a basin angus bull we do not know his lineage, his eartag fell out. Her dam is 3/4 simmental and 1/4 limmy. The heifer is standing stretched because her hooves are long, it's not how she naturally stands, the red cow is the dam, the black cow is her maternal sister by g13 structure and the bull is her sire
