I'll preface this by going on record as saying I don't enjoy being critical just for the sake of being critical. As far as comments on this site, I typically live by the old adage, "If you don't something nice to say..." That being said, I think the best thing any of us can do in an effort to improve our cattle is to look at them critically and try to evaluate them objectively. And when we do that, we have to be willing to see them for what they are. It doesn't mean there is no place or no purpose for an animal, but that's how we measure our program against others in a competitive industry, and it's how we improve over time.
In regards to the heifer pictured, I never said she was "horrible" and i agree the pictures are not particularly flattering. I see her as ordinary in terms of muscle, rib shape, substance of bone, and eye appeal. I wasn't trying to be vague or indirect in describing her in general terms.
I don't think this is a forum where people are fishing for compliments, and anybody who is will often be disappointed. By posting pictures and asking for opinions, I have to assume this breeder wanted honest feedback. It isn't personal, and as I said, wasn't meant to be overly critical, and I hope my comments will be construed as objective, honest and constructive. It's just one opinion.
