If one wanted to interject |OCC Anchor into the Red Angus gene pool. |How would he do it. Buy a Red Angus female and breed her to Anchor. But now......would you register the resulting black calf as Angus....or |Red Angus?

First you need to know if Anchor is a red gene carrier, B/C if he's not you'll never get a red calf out of a mating.

but if he's not-- you could still do it-- as every offspring he would sire would be a carrier of red, as long as they had red moms..

That is true. Just a generation later.

Anchor is homo black. Cool. So a black can be registered as catagory II then. Would you need a certificate from Anchor then......|I spose you would. Do Angus have certificates?

If you are talking AI certificates, yes, call Tim Ohlde. AI certs are a source of much debate amongst the Angus breed. But, they are a reality right now. I think Anchor is $50 for an AI cert right now.

RAA does not require Cert. so you may want to ck into whether or not you need them to make this deal work.

If I have to sell off 50 cows I would like to tie into a Red Angus female or several.

Anchor and a red angus would result in a black calf. That calf could be resgistered ONLY as a cat II red angus. As far as I know it can not be registered in the black angus assoc.

aj - if your looking for red angus, it seems that Gilchrist Auction Co in Iowa does most of the sales in the country. I bet he could be of assistance.

Go to Felton's. I think that's the name. The red angus simmy deal you already know about.  Is the Diamond Cross deal in Nebraska still around? First shorthorn guy who buys a set of angus cows from A@T 's neighbor. Dockweiler I think is there name, will hit a home run.  They have registered straight bred Shoshone cattle. JAD Angus. They are doing a private treaty bull sale this spring. I'm sure they would sell heifers. They had the Shoshone Prudence 6157 cow. My all time favorite cow. Mush rush red angus is close to you. Peipers in Nebraska. Call LJC. Sky is the limit with what you could do.
