Reading the accelerated genetics semen directory. They list 8 or so bulls TAI. These are bulls that have been used in large timed AI programs with great success. I assume they are saying that some how some bulls are better for timed AI than others? If this is correct, what would cause this advantage? The way the semen thaws or different acting sperm movement or what?

AJ I would say all of the above. We have had it in the dairy bulls for long time now. Just takes a lot of data to prove out a beef bull. Dairy herds preg check often and keep track of breeding and conception data better than most beef herds.

It looks like the bulls listed are simply ones that have been used in large numbers for TAI.  I would think good technique and proper handling of the semen is more important than using a TAI designated bull.

I can't speak for Accelerated but I know with the Genex Pregcheck it is based on breeding a done within dairy herds. They have tracked conception with a data based index you can find in the catalog. It only pertains to the Bulls ability to get cows bred through a I. There is no correlation to daughter fertility etc.

Thanks......must be kinda like an epd for timed ai fertility. Interesting.....wonder if all the successful bulls would have a dna marker in common. Not that it would be worth pursuing because most people turn bulls out.
