Cooper discoverer enough grip but good on the hwy

Mine only lasted about 20,000 miles on my F350 SRW.  They didn't hold up at interstate speeds for long trips loaded.

I have had good luck with Firestone for tire life.

Did lots of research prior to JUST purchasing my tires on my F350. I bought the BF Goodrich Rugged Trail 275/65 20's. They were $250 a tire at Discount Tire and I am impressed with how they do on the highway. I had crappy goodyear wranglers. The Goodrich have a new "hybrid tread" design. They have interesting tread pattern that doesn't kill your highway mileage but you get some traction. We will see and time will tell. They look great.

Three out of the four Coopers on our Ford F 350 crew cab threw chunks of tread or peeled like a recap before 20,000.  Cooper claimed they didn't have a problem.  Our tire guy disagreed with them and had a pile of them to show them but no luck.

Back to Firestones this time.

If you don`t need a real aggressive tread pattern then it`s pretty hard to beat a Michelin tire for getting a lot of miles out of a set of tires.

I will never buy a cooper tire again.  A cousin of mine had one blow out on the interstate with him and 19 surgeries later he can walk again with a cane at 25 years old.  Not a month later I had one blow on the dirt road that only had about 7,000 miles on it.  they were different tires altogether and I know of several other people who had the same issues.  Cooper tires are dangerous

I have doing a little research as well and BF Goodrich is what I was leaning towards. Had all terrains on there last time time and regretted buying them bc of how fast they wore down and how bad my mileage suffered.  Wanting something in between highway and all terrain. Let me know how they are doing.

We've never really bought discount tires, always went to our big tire dealer that handles and fixes all of our tractor, irrigation, trailer, and truck tires.  We have always tried to get them on sale but never bought online or anything.  Looked up and I wrote almost 10 grand to them last year replacing tires on the 35 year old irrigation systems.  We do buy retreaded truck tires for the pivots though.  He always has done us a good deal and on there rare instances I have found the same tire cheaper somewhere he matched the price and mounted them for free for me.

We have been running the Michelin LTX A/T 2 at work on the 4x4's and the trucks that are used on dirt jobs, they have bite to them, yet are quite on the highway, last about 50,000 miles if taken care of. Some guys have gotten over 60,000 on them.

In my career as an equipment salesman I have put an awfull lot of miles on dirt and gravel roads, combined with heavy towing of equipment and then the regular farm duties of the truck as well.

I have had the best luck with BF Goodrich Rugged Trails and have put 75,000 miles on a few sets.

These would be E rated 10 ply tires on a 3/4 ton Dodge. I have found them to be the lowest cost per mile, but they do not necesarily have the greatest off road traction, I would call them a multi purpose tire.

I have noticed some rugged trails have a tendency to develop checking and cracks on the sidewalls over time but I have never had a problem with one failing.

Several years ago I had a Goodyear Wrangler 10 ply seperate the tread from the casing and wrap around the axle and made control of the vehicle "interesting" for a few seconds.

The flapping tread did about $5,000 dammage to the side of the truck and just missed the fuel tank.

When I got the truck stopped it still had almost 80 lbs of air pressure in the tire.

So I haven't bought any Goodyears since!

I've also tried Pirelli tires and found the traction to be poor and that they did not last nearly as long as the BFG's.

I'm due for a set of tires anytime, it will probably be another set of BFG.

What was your experience w/ discount tires?  I saw some good deals but the whole thing seemed kinda shady...

I buy all my tires from discount tires. I have stores all around me & they will work with you on even better pricing than what they have on the website . Especially if you are repeat customer.

Are y'all talking about the company Discount Tires? If so I use Discount Tire as well. Have for years. Never had any problems and any problems have been fixed. they have most all brands and are cheaper.

Hankook is my preference.  I have used tire rack before and had tires shipped to my door and paid tire rack affiliate shop to put them on.
