This will be my first experience at camp, originally from Louisiana, and I am just helping a new family out. What time does the show generally get over on Sunday.  Just wondering what time to expect to be back in Nacogdoches  Sunday night since we have finals next week!

how did you all do? i was fortunate enough to meet chambero and to see twistedh (though i didnt recognize him) (lol), and rack ranch and steerplanet faired pretty well in the results, just wanting to know what did yall think about it in general? we stacked a heavy weight simbrah class and i got 1 and 2 in that but never got a piece of the breed drive.

Just got home.  Herzog's Char came from Kris Black.  We had Res Maine steer behind the Maddox calf (a distant reserve - that calf was twice the size of ours) - guessing he is for KC or Denver at the latest.

Well if you watched the Angus show you saw we didnt have an outstanding day under the judges...but that is gonna happen a lot with this heifer and the little boy showing her just turned 8 in March and this was his 2nd time to show..family is brand new to show cattle as well so this is all for experience...we left a pretty nice but green Chi heifer that his sister is showing at home...she will be our main focus in the ring and should be pretty competitive down the road...Braden I didnt figure you had any idea who I was, lol...as for the Steer, he was tied close to us and really caught my eye a lot...for me he is not overly extreme in any area, but I really liked him and thought he was an excellent very complete steer...I really like Blissard's Shorthorn Heifer and I think she would have been a pretty easy champion for me as well.  Good weekend overall I think.

Well, here we go again.  Another show  season has started and we are looking forward to all the fun and friendships that go along with doing what we love.  It was nice meeting some of you for the first time and hope to see you on the road again.  I was really impressed with DCC showcattle.  This young man is on the ball and will do very well in the show cattle industry.  Congrats to Chambero and family on the Res Maine steer they raised.  I cannot wait to see this steer fat and finished.  There were some nice calves at this years show and I think the good ones found their way to the top pretty easy. The judges did a very good job and moved things along quickly so that we could get home at a decent hour.  Hope to see everyone at the Belt Buckle if not sooner....

A couple of thoughts on the camp part of this event:

If you have a kid that shows and wants to go to A&M - you better be going to this.  You'll get to have direct contact with the people that are running the program.  You have a lot of the primary animal science professors at A&M involved in this program and I thought they did a great job with the kids Saturday and as judges on Sunday.  These are also the same folks that sit on the 4-H/FFA Texas Scholarship committees.

They delivered a very important message to the kids - basically know why you do what you do to your animals and be able to explain it to visitors at major shows.  This all goes back to the animal rights issues and the pressure that really is apparently being applied to the managers of these big shows.  Our kids have to be able to tell people why their animals are cared for as they are.

The steer judges were Skaggs and Maulsby and the heifer judges were Boleman and (don't know who the other guy was).  Whether you liked how they picked them or not, a couple of them gave my sons specific advice on the fine details of how they should be setting their specific animals up to hide weaknesses.  Their is a lot of value to a kid hearing that from someone beside their parents.  I was very appreciative of it.

It was a great weekend, but I have to say Rayfield was my biggest dissappointment.  Like I said the little boy I was fitting for down there this weekend just turned 8 and it was his 2nd show ever. The two girls ring stewarding didnt go out in the ring, just kinda pointed and said go over there, so this little boy had no clue where he was supposed to go or which direction he was supposed to set up...and Rayfield litterally got snippy with him right off the bat about not being in the right spot, never mind that the older showman in the ring wasnt either.  I have never wanted to cuss a judge as much in my life as I did at that moment because of the way Rayfield was talking to and treating that little boy.  I dont care how talented he is or how good of a judge he is, he lost my respect forever on Sunday.
