We're in the process of pricing a new aluminum gooseneck. The 2 that I am the most impressed with are Elite, and 4-Star. For the exact same trailer, the Elite was $1,500 higher. Doesn't that sound like quite a bit of difference, or is the Elite that much stouter of a trailer?

Have an 8 x 20 barrett,  not the fanciest but taken more abuse than it should have and not a broken weld to be found.  After 9 years and 2 trucks if they can build a 48 ft pot that hangs with you then I bet a gn will last longer than I will be around

I'd have to agree with Prom King. We have a 26' Eby Maverick and love it. The sliding divider gate is a GREAT GREAT GREAT addition. The LED Lights just make it look cool.  O0

We are buying a new trailer right now did a bunch of shopping at the Farm Machinery Show Thursday.  The new Featherlite and 4 Stars I see at the stockyard has dents you can see, I don't think the new wavy sides are as strong as the older ones.  I really compared the Eby and Wilson and the Eby wins hands down for the money heavier axles and heavier built.  That being said the Wilsons are cool and for show calves more than adequate 7,000 # Dexters and more common sized tires.  Wilson had already sold 4 of the 24 ft Show Circut model by Thursday at 20 grand a pop they had on display with 40 inch ramp and sliding front cut gate plus inside and outside ties that I think are too high.  We are trading and Wilson won't talk trade but Eby is willing.  The dealer for Eby is in West Jefferson, OH about 3 - 3 1/2 hours away that was at the show.

We have hauled a 4 Star for the past 15 years and it has been a great trailer, don't know if they have changed in that time, if not I'd save the 1500.

My wilson has 7500# axles and the inside tie rail is 24 inches off the floor. I usually use either gates or corral panels on the out side of the trailer to tie to. I've wore out three sets of tires on it and have no complaints. RW

Depends what you want. wouldnt go wtih the fancy ones if you want a hauling trailor. We had a Keifer steel and a Fealtherlite steel and the keifer just plain wins. But then agian both steels rust out way to quick but our 4 yr old featherliught needs some attetion. My dad has looked again and seamsn to lean for the eby. They're really tough trailers. thats what alot of people around us have who haul feederes and they love em

A friend told me don't buy any trailer that's welded, he used the example that they don't weld airplanes they rivet them, we have a 24' Wilson and it is a dream to pull, can't tell it's behind the truck.Would like the sliding gate instead of the swing gate on the 2ND divider

I would buy either an Eby or Wilson.  Never mind both are made in Iowa.  But then again so are feather lite and Aluma-line, both decent trailers.  I agree on the welds, try to get a riveted trailer.

Got an Elite. But also dealer is good friend. It's welded but no problems. Get at least a 7.5' wide. We use it to haul everything. But if I was hauling just for shows would get the sliding (adjustable) 2nd divider with side ramp door. Also don't forget to get the hayrack for the roof.

Pulled a 22' Eby since 93.  Great trailer.  Only thing ever done to it is replace tires.  Priced new ones about 2 years ago, and dealer was going to give more $$ for it then when he sold it in 93.  It's been a great trailer.

Forgot about Wilson and Eby. That's kind of funny too, because I work in an office for a trucking company that hauls grain and cattle. My boss has been mainly a Wilson and Merritt guy for years, with a Chapparal or 2 around. Well, 2 years ago, he bought a new Eby because it was about $4,000 cheaper than a Wilson. Since then, he has bought 3 or 4 more (I can't remember which), and as it turns out, none of them are around anymore. They've all been wrecked!! So, needless to say we won't be seeing any more of those around in the near future. I don't know if my boss' rotten luck would spill over to me, but I really don't know if I want to see!

Somebody posted on here to get a 7.5' wide. I was planning on a 7' wide. Is that extra 6 inches worth the extra money? Also as far as the hayrack, they (4Star and Elite, both) said that would be easy to add later on. For now we are just going to focus on 2 calves, a half a dozen jackpots, and then county, district and the oye, so I should have plenty of room in the back of the trailer for a few square bales.
I would also like to add that since I have started posting, you guys have been great at giving me useful advice, and I really appreciate that. Keep 'em coming!!!
