Ok, I'm finally going to throw in the towel on my 6.0 Powerstroke.  I just can't afford the maintenance and the wife told me to find something else.  I'm looking at 2007/2008 chevy Duramax trucks.  Can I hear some of the good and the bad about these trucks?  Can't believe I'm thinking about getting a Chevy.......

Have an 05, have only had it in the shop once for exhaust problem (Vibration). If you do allot of hauling you will love the transmission, I cant tell you how nice it is when you come to steep grade and the Allison takes over.
I am pretty good about servicing my vehicles, I also have a 99 1/2 ton with 245,000 on it and have only had to replace the oil pump and a cadilic (spelling) converter this last year.

Husband has an '05 Chevy crew cab diesel pickup.  He is a stone masonry contractor... in addition to the ranching and has done much more hauling stone, materials and the like.  Very heavy hauls.  Its a flatbed and its been one of his best trucks he's ever had.  He was a Ford man for years but one of our good friends is a chevy dealer and decided to buy this one.  I'm sure it has well over 200K miles now I'm really not sure.  Very little money out on any repairs.  Before the economy went to far south he was talking about buying a new one.  I told him that truck has been so dependable he'd better hang onto it!  Now he's glad he did.

Have a 07 with about 80,000 on it and have never had a problem with it once. You'll love the transmission when your hauling.

I have owned 2 Dmaxes. An 03 and an 05 that I still have. As already stated earlier, the transmission is great. No mechanical issues with either. The 05 has almost 100K on it.

Had an 08 3500 dually, put 75,000 miles on it, only problem I ever had was related to a reprogram of a sensor. Traded it in June for a 08 GMC - 15,000 miles on that one so far without a hiccup. Duramax is very strong and will tow the crap out of whatever you put behind it. Allison tranny is flat out awesome.

For the time I would stay away from a 2011 model until the Urea systems become a bit more proven. The 07-08's can be had for pretty fair money in comparison.

Love our 04 GMC.  We haven't had the first problem out of it and you barely know you're pulling anything.  Transmission is great!

After about a month I finally got my truck back and the mechanic told me that he thought a couple more things were getting ready to go.  I drove straight to a Chevy dealership and bought a 2011 duramax.  It's kind of strange looking at the bowtie on the front of my truck but i really do like the way it rides and man....it has some go to it.  It's way too quiet and doesn't smell like a diesel.  I guess some people would like that(I'm not one of them).  My wife hasn't had one bad thing to say about it, and believe me that's saying something!

I really thought about the new ford diesel but they haven't had a reliable diesel(IMHO) since the 7.3 and I was fed up!

My perfect truck would be a ford body, dodge motor, and a Chevy interior. I'm a big fan of the Dodge 5.9L. Great engine and it's sounds good too. Good luck on your search!

I have had all three so far. I agree with DFSC, if I could put that Cummins in a Chevy I would be a happy camper. I plow a TON of snow in the winter and that Cummins flat gets it done. I have a Banks Six gun on mine and it is a hog. My 96 GMC is still plowing snow as well. Over 12 years with it. Hard to beat the bowtie.

Congrats on your new truck! <beer>

Actually, Chevy did a complete remodel of their chassis.  They are now the strongest in class.  This was one of my deciding factors to go with them. I like the 5.9 as well. My uncle has one with 250000 miles on it and it is still running strong.  The bad thing is that the truck is basically falling apart around the motor.

Do you ever go on long hauls with a loaded 28ft. trailer?  I can't imagine that would be much fun with a gas.

I'm a Ford guy.  Just sold my 2002 F250, 7.3L, 4X4 this spring.  Great truck, but I no longer need a 3/4T pickup.  But, in our 10 years of Showing, in 13 States we hauled with a 1989 Club Cab Chevy Dually, 454 gas.  All I can say is.......that pickup could pass anything but a Gas Station.  I got 10 mpg with no load, 7 mpg loaded.  I could run off and leave anybody!

This Spring I made the biggest mistake of my driving days by purchasing a super clean 2007 Toytota Tundra 4x4.  The test drive was great, and the deal was good, but this truck can't touch a Ford or Chevy in quality.  My point,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Do Your Homework!

That is an excellent point.  I being a life-long ford guy purchased my 6.0 just because I needed a diesel and I've always driven a ford.  Big mistake!  This time I researched the truck and made my selection.  I guess I never really have considered the 454 because of the mileageassociated with it.

Have 2500HD Crew cab Diesel -no duals- and LOVE this truck.  And no I don't haul every day but it pulls a 30 ft trailer loaded just fine.  It is my personal truck for Mom hauling and gets about 15 around town and about 18 on the highway without a trailer.  Did I say I LOVE this truck!  Have watched my family replace the turbos twice int  in thier ford.  Yikes!

Now here is a tip if you are still looking.  Quarter Horse Congress jsut got over in Ohio and Brondes Ford took in about 16 trades,  Might be some Chevys in there.  Just google them and see.  Coughlin Motors was there as well as Western Hauler.  All the dealers get good trade ins this time a year.  Just your FYI for the Day.
