I went and saw the new one a few weeks ago and it did not live up to the hype I had been hearing about it. I liked it and thought it was good, just not good enough to be called better than the original. I also will agree that I preferred Matt Damon over Glen Campbell and the same for the new Maddy Ross.

McLintock is the greatest!

Does anyone else think that Maureen O'Hara is the most beautiful red head woman ever!?  Her character (and wardrobe) were so great in those other movies, and made you like JW even more. She's another actress that I don't think could ever be replaced in a role.

Also Glen Campbell character was more humorous in the old version... and I thought more likable.  Matt Damon was more serious though and I loved his outfit!

For those who say they won't go because you can't remake it...your loss and very narrow minded in my opinion.

It's a darn good movie.  While I like the Duke, Jeff Bridges does a great "Rueben" Cogburn.  This one is much closer to the book.  Someone said Bridges just played a drunk....uuuhhhh read the book.

I will almost guarantee if the movies were switched...people would be saying that they left way to much out of the Duke version.

Again I can watch The Cowboys, Big Jake and McClintock once a month.  ElDorado and Rio Bravo move just a bit too slow...once a year.  Sons of Katie Elder cost me an A in Farm and Ranch Mgt. in college...watched the movie instead of studying.  Don't tell my boys....

We did go watch cause we hadn't watched the original in a while... telling my younger friends to watch the new one... then see the original and judge for themselves.
In the movie Jeff Bridges did seem like a drunk.. IMO..
Thats why they make movies... for those of us that don't read books!    (lol)

The poll was for who we liked better... call me narrow minded, but I prefer the DUKE in this role.  Not that I didn't enjoy comparing.
