Can someone please explain how one would prep a calf for a "U Fit" class?  Rules for the class are animals enter ring with clean and dry with no adhesives, oils, other substances.  In the ring there is no use of clippers, blowers, paint, or coloring agents.
Is it ok to do a complete clip job prior to entering the ring?  What would an exhibitor use in the ring for fitting?  Scissors?  Adhesive?  Can someone specifically tell me how they would fit the calf in 30 min with min. supplies?
As a side - showmanship is a "no fit" except for the U Fit class exhibitors - does that mean its ok to use adhesives in the U Fit even if its prohibited for the showmanship?  Rules aren't written real clearly.

OK, just read your profile and I see you are from Michigan.  So I'll answer your question...we have years of experience at this event.

UFit is at 2 PM. You have 30 minutes to fit your calf. Usually you have your calf clipped to the point you only need to glue up legs, tail head, ball the tail, final bloom body etc... Everything but paint and "power".  I have seen scissors used.  30 minutes is A LONG TIME.... especially without "power".  at 30 minutes you must have your calf show ready behind your chute :) Once time is called you take your "fit" calf into the opposite ring for a showmanship class.  This class is ONLY the calves that have done u-fit.  At the end of the class the winners are announced.  Then u have time to break done your calf for the "regular" showmanship class at 5pm.  It is NO FIT so yes NO ADHEVISVES. :)

Also be sure to listen for the meeting before the event.... in years past they have shortened the time to 20 minutes :)
Does that help???

Thanks for the reply!  Yes, it is for the Winter Beef show.  Are there a lot of entries in the U Fit classes?  Do fitters still "ball" tails these days?
Are there any "secrets" to making your calf stand out?  LOL guess no one will answer that since it's a "secret"!

We ball tails... not like the HUGE ones back in the day, but more of a "tear drop" shape.  Also, the entries vary from year to year... but no matter who many entries it is VERY competitive.  The prizes are really good... and kids are getting better and better each year.  Honestly after years watching the class... I don't have a secret... wish I did because I'd really like my kiddos to win the show-box :)
