SVFI Uncle 875 U  Reg # 4170422 THF,PHAF, DSC.  Really really liked this bull in person ! He is super sound, linebred and thick. I had the opportunity to split two flushes with Clark Farms Shorthorns. We flushed to Uncle's sire  "rooster 561R" and Uncle. The paternal brothers are very deep bodied and thick- if you're in Des Moines area look em up.  Lots of longevity in the pedigrees too. All 5 are patterned the same way !
We have one purebred Uncle baby here in Michigan and expect 9 pregs this fall ( w/ CFS) to calve at Sun Valley.
Glenn (SVFI) the breeder of the bloodline is a super guy ! Uncle is owned by Midcontinent, Wayne Temple and Steve Courville.
Clark- had a video on VHS for years and transferred to digital if you click on this link- Uncle's sire Rooster and grandsire Nugget on the links- you'll see the "big rib shape" is stacked pretty deep.  http://youtu.be/EF-utSBVaQQ

The  bulls are not small ( uncle, rooster or nugget) at least not for me and obviously not Wayne temple? . What you have to realize is Uncle was proven before the current promo ( he is old). We flushed to Rooster ( Uncle's  sire) and Uncle before the current campaign.  The paternal brothers are almost a year old.  Lily 803 is your typical captain daughter and I am excited about the Uncle match up.  Our rooster bulls are gaining really well ( sept/0ct 2013)
Craig, I saw Uncle the same year I saw your herd ... so that was at least 5 yrs ago? My thoughts then and now are the same.
Xbar- it's funny you think "small " and you are using a Jpj son?

I was surprised there wasn't more excitement about him than what I had seen. I couldn't use him here in my little oddball program because of the color and the DSC deal. KNABE.....if I could have AI'd this year it would have been to jsf allied 5a xar588856 and Buffalo crick the rightg kind(red angus).

We tried something different a couple years ago and yes I wish now he was dsf - but we can work around it now. Uncle is very versitile- from what Wayne said sales are pretty good. I wish  he was solid red and Wayne thought roan- we both think Uncle is incredible sound.
Craig I wanted to make more 5/8  x 3/8 composites in my breeding program for this year  and thought about  Answer but then realized TC advantage is DD carrier ?  We have alot to keep track of as seed stock breeders. I can follow the reds most of the time.

When I saw Uncle 875 in the SC a couple of editions ago, I was interested in his "soggy" look.  Pity abou the DSC deal though!

There is always a place for this type of bull in any programme.  If my assessment is correct, they thicken and moderate frame and even out type in one generation.

I had a similar type bull seven to eight years ago and the positive influence is still evident.  Have used a number of his grandsons as herd sires over the years, still am!

If you're reading this post- contact Midcontinent Farms about photos of Uncle Progeny.

I was Uncle at Glen's when he was about 18 months old and the first thing I could think to say was WOW.  He is incredibly thick without being freakish.  I keep saying I want to use him but the Stockings and the DSC I keep looking him over.  I think that there is a place for him.  I believe a Uncle calf was a high seller for MCF a few sales ago.
