Since today kind of marks the end of the summer show season, I figured we could kind of share what we believe are under used or forgotten products that people overlook these days. Might also be a good time to share some newly gathered wisdom.

I'll go first.

Underrated product- Sullivan's Styling Mousse spray foam.  This stuff, IMO, is the #1 most underused and overlooked product out there.  I know we all used it when we were young before we knew why we did things.  But now, wow....this stuff is BOSS. Probably mostly useful in the summer when haircoats are a little thin, but it can thicken up and fill out a coat like nothing I've ever seen.

New wisdom? Let a dairy girl be in charge of filling the cattle at shows.  They really know their stuff.

I always use the mousse at the little jackpot shows. Really helps make them look good at shows you don't feel like having to wash adhesive and paint out of hair (clapping)

A rice root brush is severely underused IMO. I still love using it on working leg hair on all the calves and the whole body on calves with finer hair.

I think that Hair Set is one of the most underrated fitting products. I was fitting with a Simmy guy and he couldn't get his heifer's long body hair up like he wanted so I told him I'd go get some Hair Set and he didn't even know what it was.  He saw the difference it made and now their tack box is always stocked with it. It's great for holding up body hair at shows or for picturing since it doesn't require washing out. We also use it for doing legs & tail heads at non-aerosol shows. It gives a nice shine and doesn't make the body hair feel too tacky or stiff. The local supply store in my town told me it was discontinued but I really hope they meant that they stopped selling it, not that it's not being made aymore.

Well, all I know for sure is we never had to start cramming extra winning fill or hoping the girls would drink an extra two buckets of water as they left the chute at all this summer.  I think it's a combo of the dairy experience and taking some good advice concerning watering from a good friend of mine that is very involved with a high profile Angus show string.
