I have a really good Shorthorn Plus heifer that just needs a little more width and some more length, so I was thinking about breeding her to Unstoppable for her second calf. I was just wondering what some of his calves birth weights are and if they are easy coming out or if they need a lot of pulling?

Its really going to depend upon how shes bred-Unstoppable is not a calving ease bull-on some cattle hed be fine:eek:n others-not so good-If you don't want Shorthorn (there are cool ones that ARE NOT HI BW) than I would highly suggest something like BP Comfort Zone-or any number of 1-80 sons and other Maines-Young Money is also throwing some real good calves-and as a second calver he oughta be OK-Hes a Blue Roan sired by Eye Candy-with the Shorthorn-I think hes slowly turning into a MAJOR good one:look at the blue Simm cross by him that Trausch is "helping" with (yea yea they dont own him-the owners ought to count thier blessings a name deal like that would post him): If shes already black-check out the blue out of White Jazz on executive sires-just a couple thoughts on really good clean, reasonable BW cattle. White Jazz is more or less a hiefer bull-and Young Money follows the female-in fact alot of his calves are late bloomers-there have been various ones in sales-and they didnt really look bold fronted: he doesnt either-to be that thick.Check out his blue son on Trauches blog out of a Simm female. For the most part niether of these bulls will calve like the direct sons of Heatwave-Monoply O0

We have only had 2 (more to come this fall), both were 75#, a bull and heifer out of older cows, one was unassisted, the other would be what we call a medium pull.

As of right now, I wouldn't put him in second calvers.  Similar pedigreed bulls that we have put in second calvers are Eye Candy and Ohio Senator.  Based on our experience, I think I would add Walks Alone to that list.

We were thinking about using Unstoppable because the heifer is about perfect except she needs more width to her front and rear, but I'm going to see how her big her first calf is and then decide if I want to breed her to Unstoppable. Just out of curiosity though what other bulls would you use that would add width to the front and rear of the calves?

The Trausch blog etc is right at the top-if this link works look up: 1: new bulls-Renegade Blue-they slso did a butt picture -hes 1 of the thickest 1s Ive seen at Trausches to be not remotely  a PUD 2: Young Money-and calves-LAST PAGE :the ones pictured are way stout-of course probably so were thier dams.I think hed change your hiefer some without losing any scale-and without the potential grief of some others. I have had several Unstoppables out of cows and they come easy and weigh 80-90 lbs.  I really like this bull but use him on something sharp fronted.  He should work on your shorthorn cow.
