Looking into installing some pipes in our washrack to tie between.  What have you all found is the best way to install these into existing concrete?

I'm getting ready to put 2 pipes in my pre existing concrete for my wash rack and I'm using a 2" concrete coring bit to drill out the hole.

What is the best width between pipes and distance from wall?  We would mostly use it for calves 5 - 8 months old before selling them.  Or are there measurements that work for calves and older castle?

3ft apart and 3ft back
for calves it's a little wide, but works perfect for 600# and up

If you are building from scratch, find PVC pipe that is just large enough that the post will fit in, use the PVC pipe to place sleeves in the concrete so you can remove the post when needed. I preffer the PVC since it won't rust, Sch. 40 or above.

The outfit we get steers from just built one, see below.

Wish I would have heard this suggestion a few years ago.  PVC sleeves are a great  idea.  We used metal pipe for the sleeves, and rust has become an issue.

Some friends of mine just put in a new wash rack, they spaced there bars every 24 inches in between pipes for calves then the space from that to the next set of bars in 29 inches I believe. That was they can put calves in the 24 inch whole but if they need to clip fat steers they can still put them in the 29 inch holes (I think those measurements are correct) but you get the picture. I hope I explained that good enough. I thought it was a great idea.
