WE ARE FROM OKLA. AND LOOK FORWARD TO THE BIG GAME ON THURSDAY.  BUT I THINK THE CHAMPION HAS ALREADY BEEN PICKED.  WHEN UTAH BEAT ALABAMA TO END THE SEASON UNBEATEN, THAT CLOSED THE DEAL.  THERE IS ALSO A CHANCE THERE WILL BE A SPLIT TITLE THIS YEAR!!

i didnt' think bama looked strong in any game i saw this year.  kind of confused why they were #1.

after the strategy of expending everything on the first 3 drives, it was clear utah has no ground game.

bama got radically outcoached as it took forever to stop the slants, act agressive etc.

basically to me, utah used the old bill walsh strategy of scripting the first 30 plays, kicking but and holding on.

As Lee Corso would say... "not so fast my friend".  I can't believe I just quote him!

1st, let's see how Florida & Oklahoma works out first.

I agree with Knabe.  Alabama was a very good team, but they were not overly explosive & probably not a "great team".  In the Utah game, they were without the best O-lineman in the country too (probably the #2 player taken in the NFL draft!).  I also think that Alabama season came to an end when Florida beat them.  They wanted championships (SEC & National), not a bowl win.  Plus, who gets excited about playing Utah?  And Utah heard that they were going to get spanked for weeks leading up to the game.  Not to mention, Utah is a very good team too.  Bama got in a 21 point hole & despite out scoring Utah the rest of the game, the hole was too big to climb out of, just as Kanbe pointed out.  IMHO, it was the perfect storm.

If Utah feels that they are unfairly treated, they have nobody to blame except themselves.  All they had to do was schedule a couple of real good teams from other areas of the country & then nobody would be questioning their weak schedule.  But, when you play a bunch of cupcakes, this is what happens.  It's a lot like people on welfare expecting the Govt to take care of them, when they could be taking care of themselves if they really wanted to!  The bottom line is, Utah doesn't want to play anybody during the regular season & when they win a big bowl game & go undefeated, then they can cry foul... but the only thing foul is the person who scheduled their games!  I don't feel sorry for them 1 bit!  Utah made their own bed, now they need to sleep in it!!

The only "great teams", IMHO, are Florida & Southern Cal.  Florida is the cream & Southern Cal is a firm #2.  Utah is probably a solid #3.  Followed by all the rest...

Wow don't give Utah any credit.  It's not like their defense completely shut down Bama's great smash mouth run, or that the only points put on the board by Bama's offense was a 51 yard field goal and one good drive for a touchdown pass.   Utah sacked a quarterback 8 times that had only been sacked 16 times for the entire season and only gave up 31 yards to a team whose whole game is on the ground..  I would like to know how many times he was rushed and knocked down.  Their offense scored in three out of four quarters.  You are right though.  They came out throwing the ball short and stayed with it because Bama could not stop them.  Why would they change. I cannot prove that they are best team in the nation, but you can't prove their not.  They have done everything in their power to earn the title, but some don't give much respect.  I had to laugh at statement by a Oklahoma player. " Put them in our conference and see if they go undefeated"   Maybe he should look how the big 12 has done in the bowl games this year.

Big 12 is 4 2.  Is that bad losing to teams that beat USC and Florida.

I don't know if the record in bowl games shows how good they are, texas needed a last minute drive to defeat those "terrible" buckeyes and kansas barely beat northwestern who isn't exactly the class of the big ten...

I don't care who you are or where you play if you go undefeated in any of these conferences now days in D1-A you should be #1. So I guess all the colleges need to be in the Big Ten, Big 12, ACC, SEC, or PAC 10 to get any respect. 7 of the 13 where won by 2 touch downs are less.

Let's not kid ourselves, Alabama was not all that great on offense this year.  They were a real good, but not great team.  And a huge part of their offensive success was their big left tackle, who did not play against Utah & who only allowed 1 sack all year.  Why didn't he play?  Because like a lot of the other Bama players, he didn't care a thing about playing Utah in a bowl that meant next to nothing to the Tide players.  They wanted Championships & when they saw they weren't going to be able to win any, they folded up.  Bama came in sleep walking & just couldn't ever get untracked... it happens.  Who knows if Bama would've or even could have beaten Utah if the they had all their players & if the game actually meant something.  I think it would've been a great game to watch.

Utah is also a real good team.  They deserve credit.  They are probably the #3 team in the nation, if you want my honest opinion, & that's not bad.  But, Utah would get spanked by Florida, that's just the reality of it all.  Florida is more explosive & better balanced that Bama, both on O & on D.  They are faster & are just as physical, if not more so than Bama.  Plus they have more veteran skill players at key positions.  John Parker Wilson is not even close to Tim Tebow.  And Bama has nothing even close to Percy Harvin.  Florida's lines are quicker & more athletic than Bama's too.  Yes, Utah beat Bama by a bigger margin, but so what?  Percy Harvin didn't play against Bama.  Also, that UF/Bama game meant not only an SEC Championship, but also meant the BCS Championship game too.   Watch the 2 games... I did... Bama was clearly more fired up & a lot more motivated to beat Florida.  I didn't see the same passion against Utah... not even close.

With all that said, I've said it once & I will say it again... UTAH has nobody to blame but themselves!!  If they don't like it... they should scheduled somebody from another area of the US.   Their schedule is a joke & their conference is a joke & that is why they aren't in the BCS title game!  Instead of crying to everyone, they need to be crying to the person who schedules the games.  That is where the blame is.  They can't fault the system, because they obviously did not want to do what needed to be done to win it all!  Even if Utah is the best team in America, which I highly doubt, they sure weren't too worried about "proving it"!  So, my message to Utah is schedule an SEC team & a Big 12 team next year... then we will see what the Utes are made of, but until then, enjoy watching the national championship game on TV!!

CJC... no, they don't need to be in those conferences, but if they want respect they should schedule a couple of teams from those conferences.  Until they do, they aren't going to get any & that's the way it should be.   USC plays Ohio State out of conference.  Florida plays Florida State out of conference.  Utah needs to play a similar out of conference, BCS confernce opponent, that is east of the rockies or Southern Cal, IMHO, if they truly want to earn some respect.  The problem is they don't.  They just want to cry "woe is me"!   They can schedule somebody... it's not that hard.  I don't feel a bit sorry for them at all.

IMHO, the team with the biggest beef about not being in the title game is Southern Cal.

Utah beat Michgan, Oregon State & TCU by a whopping total of 8 points.   That's national champion level stuff?   ::)

I'll grant they didn't know Michigan would be awful, but Michigan is the Big 10... what has that conference done lately?   And to only beat them by 2 points & then claim to be nation champs...  ???  Michigan didn't make a bowl appearance & look at what the rest of that conference did.  That actually hurts Utah more than it helps.

Oregon State isn't too bad & other than Bama, the best team they played, but they only beat them by 3 points?  Why not play Southern Cal or Oregon or Cal instead?  Traditionally, those 3 teams are the cream of the Pac 10.

TCU is decent team, but by no means not jaw dropping.  Oklahoma absolutely spanked TCU, but Utah barely beat them.  Instead of TCU, why not play somebody in the Big 12, like Texas or Oklahoma or even Missouri?  Or better yet, the SEC?  Even the ACC would be a better way to impress the pollsters than playing TCU.

TCU, Michigan & Oregon State?  ???  What were they thinking, besides thinking those games were probably going to be winnable?

Again, Utah's schedule is the only thing the Utes need to be crying about.

Before I get branded for not being very sensitive... I just want to point out that the Utes knew the BCS formula going in & should have scheduled accordingly.  I personally don't think they scheduled to get into the BCS championship game & that's on them.  Florida, Southern Cal & Oklahoma all actually played several teams, who played in higher level bowl games... Utah can't say the same.

I think that yes Utah is undefeated but their schedule wasn't hard... howevereven if they had had a tougher schedule they still might not have been given the credit they deserved.. Being from Alabama and a huge Auburn/SEC fan when I can understand where Utah fans are coming from.. Auburn went undefeated...including winning the SEC Championship and still didn't make it to the national championship and they had a heck of a hard schedule.... that being said.. Utah may be undefeated and they may be great but just because their undefeated doesn't mean that they are better than Florida or Oklahoma.. Hard to swallow when both teams have a loss and Utah doesn't and even slightly more understandable about thinking they should be above Oklahoma.. Yes Florida lost and yes they lost to Ole Miss but Ole Miss  was darn good this year and I think highly underestimated. I do believe there should be a playoff system but it would take alot of thought and figuring out and who's to say even then if it would be fair.... Enough of my ranting...JMHO

Though I am an adamant Buckeyes fan, I can't help to think that Utah is being somewhat overlooked for a National Championship this year.

You say they don't play anyone, yet they had Michigan scheduled for this year, and beat them.  I realize that Michigan did not have a near typical year, but can Utah be blamed for another University's decision to change coaches and playbooks?

They also beat Oregon State, who was the only team able to hand precious Southern Cal a loss this year.  This makes it kind of hard for me to see your logic about USC being the only team with a beef about not being in the NC game.

In the final regular season rankings, the MWC had 3 of the top 16 teams; TCU, BYU, and Utah, ranked in the USA Today Poll.  The Big 12 is the only other league with 3 or more teams in the top 16.  SEC, Big 10, PAC 10- they all only have 2.  Big East and ACC both have only 1.  Why does Utah need to come East of the Rockies to play someone better, when they have a strong top of their own conference?

These are just a few talking points about why Utah is not getting a fair shake, but I don't think they will ever get a fair shake b/c they are not in one of the perceived Big 6 conferences.  They can only schedule 4 out of conference games a year.  Kinda hard to get 4 National caliber teams scheduled year in, year out.

College football needs a new system to decide a National Champion.  At least that way, my Buckeyes won't get embarrassed in NC games, but rather in an earlier round of a playoff.

I can deal with Utah not getting a fair shake as long as Oklahoma is able to beat Florida tonight.

Kansas destroyed Minnesota. Missouri is the team that beat Northwestern. I dont think Missouri was very motivated to play after having such high expectations and then crashing during the season.

Missouri looked good early in the year, but completely tailed off.  Daniels played crappy in that game.  The whole big 12 north is crap.

According to Yahoo, the 68 bowl teams and each school in their respective conferences will takeaway an average $2MM.  The conferences will NEVER let a playoff happen.  It's just simple Finance.  The BCS system may not be flawless, but each year seems to end up with the top 2 teams in the Championship game.  This year is no different.  GET OVER IT!!!!

I think that Utah could beat on any given day any team in the nation, but I dont think that they could do it every day.  That is the only reason they should end the season no. 2.  I think that OU is way over rated.  The only reason they look as good as they do is because they leave their first string players in even after they are up by 50 points.  Other teams dont do this.  Also Florida to me, sorry not that impressive.  Good D, but Tebow to me just isn't that great, good dont get me wrong good, but not great.  USC is the only team besides Utah that impresses me.  They just plain put a spanking on Penn State.  Put USC no. 1 and Utah no. 2

i would go for usc number 1 but they can't buckle down all season and beat the cupcakes aka the rest of the pac 10. oklahoma is really the only one loss team with a credible loss although ole miss is playing alot better than people thought but i agree that florida is just alot of good athletes in a speed system. usc would crush them.
