I have a 914 daughter that I am going to breed here pretty soon (we just got done flushing her to grid maker and cool rep). Her dam is Lady GI 207 for you Charolais breeders out there. Does anyone have any ideas on a bull that might click well with her?

Ledger, and any Cigar influence will work on 914.  The commercial guys want the great EPDs for growth with plenty of calving ease for their british (usually) cross cows.  Ledger does that with Marbling to boot.  His sons are popular and in demand all over the country.  There is a son, Maximo, that will be available this fall, I believe, that looks the part.  I like the 914's.  She'll make you a Cigar female or Firewater out of this world if you have $500 to spend on Cigar, or care to buy sexed heifer Firewater to make yourself a show calf.  Good luck.  We took our Full Throttle (a son of 914) to an M6 bull called Bells & Whistles.  The calf is growthy and good; we really like her.

Lots of questions here. Given the fact the 914 is an older bull and the cow I believe have a 1980's pedigree I don't think her EPDs will even be able to represent her performance adequately. what traits are you trying to improve?  How important is calving ease?
What do you think of M6 Hi Standard: https://www.bovine-elite.com/charepd2.asp?idProduct=3934&id2nd=40
Her is a high EPD bull out of a program with great bull sale average: http://tripleaaacharolais.com/charolais-herd-sire-rawes-aden-54u/
How about using a Joe Doll Bull: DCR Mr Substance A240: https://www.bovine-elite.com/charepd2.asp?idProduct=4747&id2nd=0
Also effertz has a number of that would work great.
Would you consider using a red factor bull?
These are performance bulls not show bulls.  A performance/calving bull that has won plenty is MVY XPLORER 21X. See http://www.charolaisbanner.com/trin/2015/xplorer.gif
looking forward to your reply.

I have been really thinking about flushing her to Cigar before I breed her (I only have two straws left). I know that the 914xCigar is about as good of a cross I could get and she may be the last 914 daughter I ever own so I may as well use the Cigar semen on her. She had a heifer calf out of Ledger this past fall that has actually been a bit of a disappointment to date. She usually has calves with plenty of growth and a moderate amount of muscling but this calf came out real dainty and didn't grow much. I am thinking she might just be getting too old to raise calves like she used to because the Ledger calf is starting to grow into herself now that she has been weaned for a few months. Do you know when Bells and Whistles semen will be available to the public? He is a looker for sure.

Mark: I would like to add some girth and depth to the calves, just give them some more substance (no pun intended with MR Substance haha). As long as the calving ease isn't terrible I can get by. The only thing I probably couldn't do is a negative CE EPD or BW EPD above about +1. I actually have some embryos out of her and New Standard, good to see we are thinking on the same page there. I have really considered Gain and Grade too, what do you think about him? What kind of calves does Mr Substance throw? I have seen a few at Hubert's Ranch in Kansas, but not too many. Where she is so old, I don't think I really want to experiment too much with a red factor bull. I would really like something that is a more for sure bet. I would love a bull that makes good daughters (fingers crossed on her having a heifer). You seem to like the Canadian genetics, are they something that would be good to implement into a whole herd? I really like the Sparrow bulls, just not sure how marketable they are here in America?

By all means use the Cigar on her if this couldbe the last chane to flush her.
By my estimation you want a calving ease performance bull that will put some guts into them and put out a possible replacement for her.  Sparrow cattle are based on Buddy Cobb  and high percentage French cattle so most of their bulls are well above +1 on Birth Weight so that eliminates their ABC sired cattle.  Sparrows along wth LT own Winn Mann Lanza, a bull with great EPDs and out of a good cow.  He does not put guts and muscle on them like other Sparrow bulls like Cerveza for example. LT is selling semen on him.
Grain and Grade is a good bull and works on well muscled cows like Cigar daughters not so much on BR261 type cattle.  Ask M6 as they know the bull best but this is what I have seen.
Another bull to consider is EATON'S BIG BUD 1402 owned by Eatons and Pleasant Dawn.  I would recomend talking to Trent Hatch about the bull and what you want to do since calving ease and maternal are a big part of their program (http://www.pleasantdawn.com/).
The jury is till out on substance.  In a word I am hoping for more substance and performance than Ledger. Great calving ease however.  I want to see more calves. Solution would be a good substitute.
If birth weight was not an issue I would use a bull like Gerard Pilgrim or Preacher on her.  This will solve the substance problem pronto and provide better marketability.
