I see there is some shorthorn knowledge on the board so I hope I've came to the right place.

I've been out of the game for awhile and am blowing the dust off the list of what's left to play with and found some WF Ideal Irish x Breathless 1205 embryos.  They almost had to have come from one of Cagwin's sales.  I can vaguely remember what the bull looked like but can't seem to find a picture of WF Ideal Irish or any info on where he went and how his calves were.  I see what would be two sibs and some maternal half sibs in the registry, but their names aren't leading me to any images.  Can anyone point me to an image of him or give me an idea of what he and the cow line were like?

His last owner is on the ASA website. They have an email and contact info. You might be able to get info directly from them.

Offspring will most likely be large framed.  Ideal Irish was National Champion bull several years ago, I think the show was held in Denver that year.  Some popular breeding of the era in his pedigree, Enticer, Rodeo Drive, Mark IV (the Mill Brook Ransom line) and JSF High FIve.  It seems as though there was a pretty thick, moderate (for the time) JLF Breathless female that went through a Cagwin sale that I was at several years ago.  I'll have to check on that one.  Photos of Ideal Irish aren't hard to find.  If I get time, I'll post one for you.

Just checked the ASA website and the Breathless female you mentioned is probably the one I remembered.  I'm sure I have the sale catalog at home.  If so, she has an interesting background.  You will notice a great granddam by the name of GR Nightmare.  She was an appendix cow, basically a Dividend Chi cross.  If you want to get some jumbo size calves, use her brother, GR Dreamboat.  BEPD of 10.1 last I looked

We once had a daughter of the night mare cow.  Won her class at a Jr nationals. By far the biggest boned biggest footed cow I ever owned. She ended up being to hard keeping and got sold.  I do not think she could have put her foot in a 5 gallon bucket.

August, 1999, issue of Shorthorn Country, in Cagwin's sale ad it lists 6 Ideal Irish x JLJ Breathless embryos.  These could be the ones.  No photo of either, I just randomly pulled out a magazine.  I'll keep looking.  Photo of GR Nightmare from the same issue is attached.  You'll not find a picture of her brother, Dreamboat.  I know of only one in existence.

Cool pics Oakview. I put these in my files and save them for future reference. Great to have for pedigree research.

Those about have to be them Oakview.  While searching through the pile of old sale catalogs I've remembered Don ribbing me about it being the first time I was old enough to drive to the sale on my own, so that would have had to of been in '98 or '99.  I still haven't found the sale catalog with them in it, but I just stumbled upon the 1998 Wankle Farm's Brite Lites sale catalog where WF Ideal Irish sold in lot 1 & 1a.

The Ideal Irish cows were usually a little bigger framed like Oakview said. Which most of that must have come his dams' side because I owned his sire at one time and his calves were very moderate framed. Not only for myself , but for others also. They usually had a pretty nice front ends on them. Sullivans' donor CCS Augusta Pride 330H is a dtr of Ideal Irish.
I saw plenty of the Nightmare bred cattle at Merl Welchs' and they were some stout cows. You could see the Chi in a lot of them. Her dam Abbotts Lil finished up her life in my part of the world , but never did produce anything else quite as famous as Nightmare.

I hadn't seen much about WF Ideal Irish and some of the other cattle from his era, it seems that the Trump lines displaced a lot of the popular bloodlines. When you look at Ideal Irish's sire and how he was used in the Waukaru program you have to wonder if we didn't lose a lot of good genetics if a bit of selection had been used. I realize some might have been bigger BW and larger framed but that can be said about some of today's popular lines as well. I think those embryos by Ideal Irish out of the Breathless female might produce some interesting calves.

I have always felt that Ideal Irish left better females than he did bulls. I had some females sired by him and they were pretty good females and they bred very well for us. I only had a few bulls off him, and I felt they were too tall and rangy to work here, but that was only on a few head and it is probably not fair to make this evaluation based on the small numbers. Ideal Irish was a bigger framed bull himself, with this probably coming more from his dam's genetics. Right now, I have a daughter of CCS Augusta Pride 330H that came from Sullivan's and I would rank her as one of my very best producing females. She now has her 3rd calf here, and each one of them have been in the very top end of the calf crop. She also receives nothing but grass and hay to live on, and is always in excellent condition.

I also remember the Breathless female and she was a very good female. Cagwins sold some very good females from her, and if my memory is right, I think a daughter of her's was one of the top sellers in their sale, a few years ago.

Finally tracked down the sale catalog.  It's not too hard to see some similarities in the Breathless and Nightmare cow, especially the rear third and the hooks to pins set.
