I thought it would be interesting to see what breed of cattle they prefer, and why.

I will go first Maine Anjou i like Maine Anjou because they offer some of the best show cattle in the country.

Shorthorn!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This may sound weird but, because they found me. Before farming I lived a life of booze, drugs, running wild and basically being a spoiled ass. At my bottom of the barrel moment I met a retired FFA teacher who lived down the road from a farm I got lucky enough to move in to that had room for cows (although it had not been touched in 20 years). Anyway he had shorthorns and I just fell in love with them. It was a smack in the face and  heart at the same time and I knew right then I was going to raise them.  Being on this farm has taught me more about life than any other time. I will always breed shorties. I think back to those days and then look out the window at my cows and thank the Lord I am where I am. Funny the way life takes you places you never thought you would be.

This is a trick question.

I'd say Angus. Calving ease, great records (naturally polled records back to 600A.D.), the naturally dark skin result in fewer skin and eye problems. The packers like them. They taste great. They grade very well. You can run them in the mountains or high desert. They add to any other breed. That is my opinion, but showing is secondary to me, beef is first. Probably not the best thing to say on a Show Steer oriented web site.

Oh well, flame away! ;D

Great reason. See, it is a trick question.

It must of been a good one tho. Between me and you, I think you should go over to the PETA website or HSUS site and haraas them. Now that would be a good job for you. Life is too short to be a ass all the time.

The best breed of cattle depends on what you are trying to produce, the environment you plan on raising them in, and the resources you are willing to put into raising them. There are good cattle in every breed. I do not think anyone can say which is the best breed. You can say which breed you prefer, or which breed is the most popular, but the best breed depends on a big pile of variables. The best breed for me, may be the worst breed for another person.

This is going to sound crazy, but I actually think that I like every breed and love the history and the purpose of each. Wish that I had enough time and money to raise a wider variety of the breeds.

A good one no matter what breed it is for the most part.  I don't think I would have room for a Pinzgauer, Belted Galloway or something along those lines, but if the quality was there and the price was right I might be having crow for supper.
