This is Red RMJ Redman 1T, a herd sire at Lazy MC Angus, owned by Clint and Angela Morasch, Bassano, AB.  He is a Red 5L Norseman King X OCC Hunter 928H son. IMO, any breed could use a bunch of herd bulls that look like this guy. Semex International have already selected a son for their international semen program.

Very impressive JIT. You should buy some daughters and breed them to one of your good Shorties and think of the Durham Reds!

Here is his son that Semex has purchased from Clint. He is Red Lazy MC Detour 2W. I am not familiar with this Red Angus line, but I do know that I really have liked almost everything Lazy MC has ever brought out.  As far as when Detour semen will be available in your location, you will have to check with a Semex rep.

What are your intentions?  Commercial herd? AI? Purebred use? Do you own him? EPD's?  Age?

Seems pretty nice, and has a super hip, and I am not much of a Norseman King fan!

I don't know anything about the bull and have never seen him. I just found these pictures on Lazy MC's website and thought they looked like very good cattle... and as I said, I have always liked Clint's cattle that he has brought out.

Thats a nice bull but what are they feeding him? Is he in that good of condition on just range? That would be impressive for sure. He looks like a hog to me. The cowboy cut bull they bred has got a great look to him as well. Norseman King has a bad rap for MCE but he sure made a good one here. I give him a thumbs up (thumbsup)

I like their type. Both bulls look good but the photo of his son is my favorite which says something about his sire.

If one was to be critical. What changes would you make?

I think the outcross potential of the Red Angus makes for added value.

Charolais X Red Angus is one of my favorites but they cross nicely on just about every breed IMO.

Detour's mother may look good in that picture, but when her udder is not played with and right milked out it is not a pretty sight. It has just gotten worse the older the cow gets.

I was going to say that since jit has publicly declared that big birth weights are not a problem in the Shorthorn breed how do I take this post? I assume he is trying to sell a snydication or this is another one of the 50 greatest bulls ever?

Is the birth weight deal really that bad in the US? I can only assume the difference is there is hardly any showing up here compared to the States. The prize money in Canada used to be good, it would pay your show expenses but now other than a few interbreed Supreme show prizes and the occasional jackpot there is no prize money.(Most of that end up in the same pockets year after year) The show strings are to advertise your breeding program and if a person shows at all they pick the venue carefully as it is really expensive. I guess we have been forced to rely on the commercial market more. Don't get me wrong I love showing but usually Regina Agribition is the only place we go now.

Okytoks......I have been told that a couple guys who do the sales in the Shorthorn deal are scared to death they might have have to start listing bwts in their sale catalogs. They do not want these conversations to occur. They do not want to go down the road of honest birth weights. That is a fact.

Please PM me with the names of the guys who do the sales who are scared. I promise I will not say anything to anyone else. I do not understand what the big problem is with listing what a BW is. Are you saying that no one in the Shorthorn breed is honest in reporting BWs? That is a pretty big accusation if you are. We all know that there are BWs in the Shorthorn breed that are far too big. They do need to be corrected. I do not believe it is as widespread over the breed as you claim it is. If this was the case, why are we not seeing this widespead through our herds in Canada where our BWs are higher just because of environmental factors. I hear of large BWs in some other breeds as well, and I am not convinced it is just a Shorthorn deal.
