Is it best to have a quality cattle, make smart breeding decisions and market one natural calf per cow every year?

Or, is it better to have one or two elite females and flush them a few times a year putting embryos in and also marketing the embyros as well?

Different strokes for different folks.  Both avenues has positives and negatives.  You'll have to put a pencil to it either way, since the "best" way to raise cattle is whatever way pays the bills and makes you happy.

Thanks BadgerFan.  I agree 100% that it is different for everyone.  I have kindof gone back and forth on which route is best for our operation for a long time.  Just trying to make that decision and roll with it.

It depends on what are your goals, time allotment, and what you have for a herd. We are looking to move towards more embryo work so our best cows can have 5-10 calves a year compared to 5-10 calves for her whole life. If all of your cows are close in quality then it might be better to breed all of them to have their own calves. If you have some cows that are elite and some that won't ever have a calf that you will be happy with then go for the embryo route if your breeding program is successful. Some of the better club calf herds I think have done quite a bit of embryo work but they are going all out and put in tons of time to get it all done.
