The best bull I have seen is a bull that was born and bred on the farm I show for and ended up being the #1 Red Brangus bull in the world for GenStar ratings and supreme champion @ MIACS, Grand @ Houston, @ the state fair and numerous other awards! He was out of a 1st calf heifer!

I have seen some wonderful bulls in pics though!!

I know that pictures do not tell everything, but the more I look at this bull , the more i like him. Structurally sound, great shoulder, well balanced, capacity along with eye appeal.

That is an excellent bull.

I'm not too familiar with Red Brangus (I raise Simbrah...for now). Does the registry allow upgrading with Red Angus genetics? Also, how widely available are commercial females. Here in south Texas I don't see many listings for commercial red brangus females.

It may sound crazy, and I have been laughed at several times by people who didn't know anything, but the best bull I have ever actually laid my eyes on was Hereford bull.  His name was Boyd's Heavy Hitter.

The ARBA has no set %, but the IRBBA has a set % of 3/8 5/8. This bull is a 1/4 blood which means 3/4 Angus 1/4 Brahman. And reg ARBA and also Reg IRBBA so that when we breed him to 1/2 blood cows we reg. the calves full IRBBA because they will be 3/8 5/8.

There are a bunch of commercial females. As a matter of fact, the breed was created by commercial cattlemen about 52 years ago. They wanted a better commercial breed and one that had superior carcass performance, maternal traits, high growth, production, and hardiness. Just sold a bunch of Gator semen to Texas recently. And we are also selling a bunch to central and South America.

Red Brangus sired calves surpass many other breeds in performance, The calves can also wean off 100lbs higher which means more $$ because pounds drive the system!! Also in terms of feedlot/carcass info, The breed yields more meat sires than any other breed, and both the heifer and steer calves convert on average at a 5.5 to 1 ratio.

seen a couple of clones.  they scared me, but that doesn't mean they didn't do their job well.

This may not be the best bull, but the Angus Spur Emulous Master was the most impressive bull I have ever layed me eyes on. I'm taking into account the era in which I saw him...About 40 years ago. He was the most massive, smoothest and square made Angus I had ever seen at that time. The only thing bad, which nearly made me cry, was that he really bucked off his front end and he had a difficult time just standing.

When we first started raising cattle we bought a cow from a production sale and she was bred to Boyd Heavy Hitter and she had the best bull calf I have ever seen to this day.  We went on to show him with some success but unfortunately he had some bad luck.  We were bringing him home from a show and the trailer floor busted out and he never was the same again and we finally had to have him put down.  We only got 7 calves out of him but he truly was special.

A bull that sticks in my mind is Halderman's HF Nixon. I saw him the year after he won NAILE at the Ohio Beef Expo. Probably the most natural thickness of any bull I had ever seen. He was the real deal in every way. He looked like a bull should look.

According to the PTB's (powers that be), it's impossible to achieve "best bull" status with Bramer or Shortie genetics. No matter how many facts you place in front of their noses. Never underestimate the power of ignorance in masses ;). Heaven help the Santy and Beefmaster breeders!

By-the-way your bull IS a good-lookin" cuss!

I think this question could have several answers. For those of us that have been around for a while, there have probably been different bulls that fit different periods of time. Bulls that were considered "great" in the 70's, 80's etc. would not be considered they same by todays standards. Bulls that are the "greats" today in 20 years will most likely be out of style. As fads and peoples ideas of what is desireable change, so does their idea of great. RW

nixon has a nice pedigree.  he has a female source of instigator and on the top, well, go back yourself.  should be obvious why he's thick.

Road Warrior is correct in his assement of the bulls. Trying to compare era's of bulls are like comparing athletes of different time's. Can't really be done. However, you can compare bulls of their own era 10 year range max.The post stated what is the best bull that you have ever seen? For some of us older folks, that have seen great bulls over a fifty some odd year period,it would be difficult to say as there were many. From clubbie bulls to breeding bulls the list grows with every passing year. For me at least I would hate to compare for fear of leaving a great deserving bull from the list. Besides,in my mind I can still picture them but, can't recall their names. If I had to choose, most of them would be from yesteryear although there are some awesome bulls of today also......Justintime sent me pictures of his bull in his avatar...My idea of a nearly perfect Shorthorn.
