Why is the first question out of every after a major show "What is it out of?"  It would be nice if everyone would tell more about the cow side of the great steers are out of instead of just the bull that they are out of. Anybody can breed to the top bulls but the breeders that do the homework building their cow herd is the side I would like to hear more about or am I looking at it wrong.

It was always my thoughts that the better your cows, the better chance you have to produce good ones. And I still believe that. I also believe that in the last 6 or 7 years more emphasis has been placed on owning the types of cows that produce with more consistency than in the past.  That said, I have seen many mothers to these big league steers that you'd never be able to find them if you turned them loose at the local sale barn. The clubby thing is so inconsistent, much of it is just chance.

I could be wrong, but I believe the grand steer was from one of martins good donor cows.

I could be mistaken, but I am pretty sure the grand is out of Sullivan/Reimanns Irish Whiskey donor that has produced all the champion steers the past couple of years.
