I have a really cool fronted and stout Dr. Who cow that goes back to a Debull X Meyer cow. My question is we are wanting to maybe go simmie on her to get some half bloods, what bull do you think would fit the bill. Thinking about 3c Macho, Built Right, Star Power, or any other suggestions would be nice. Also, does anyone know the availability on sexed semen from any of these bulls and price? Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

Our Machos out of Angus X cows have been nice and very maternal with super dispositions.  The Built Rights are fancy and correct but the cow needs some power for it to work.  Expect some white out of both of those bulls. If  you want to use a Dream On son, I would suggest In Dew Time over Star Power.  His calves are fancy and moderate.  You can get sexed semen on In Dew Time from Genex.

What i can tell you from that list of sires is that 3C Macho and Built Right work ideally on opposite type of cows.  Most of the time Macho needs to be used on a soft middled cow while built right will soften up cows and if she is stout and has a good hip in her i would go Built Right. They are very eye appealing but you wont have very many bulls worth a dang out of him its just the way he works so if your wanting females go with him.

For me the very short list should include Grandmaster at Select Sires - I have seen the bull and as an aged bull he is truly impressive as are the limited number of calves I have seen out of him - much more powe, bone and body than any of the Dream On or Meyer lines, not even close - a hip like a Maine however with lower quarter -  sexed semen is available - I know that there are not many calves out of him yet, but be looking for them - they are not like typical Simmentals - note the new photos on the select sires site includes a butt shot - have you ever seen a butt shot of a Simmental bull in a semen catalogue before?  Butt shot on Simmentals would generally hurt semen sales.  His milk numbers will improve greatly over time as his sire and dam both have great milk numbers and I don't know why his are so low?

I have some In Dew Time's that are 4 months right now and I'm very pleased with them. He makes good bulls and heifers.

I used Star Power last year and my recommendation would be to use him on a deep bodied cow that needs to be fancied up.

Built Right is the most consistent.  On power he would be perfect.  I wouldn't use Star Power again.  Our Built Right's have been really nice.

I have a Ranch Hand due early February.  Also, sold a Dream On heifer bred to him.  I have heard that the calves are small and hit or miss on quality.

Lots of good suggestions.  I also have a cool fronted Dr Who heifer that is red.  Any red blaze bulls out there?

Guess it depends what market you are shooting for. We have a similar bred 4 year old cow and she is muscular and very wide and very good fronted, would like to see a little bit more bone. She is a little too tight wound also, but she can damn sure raise a good calf and she being a halfblood Meyer's Blacktop she milks really well. She was bred to Dream On for her first calf, decent bull calf sold for 1500.00 second go around she was bred to Macho and her heifer sold for 4500.00 We just weaned her third calf [July] out of Maximus and have been offered more for her than what the first two brought combined. She will be bred back to Grizzly for her fourth calf,if that works out she will be flushed to numerous bulls in the future.

WOW, i would be afraid to use anything but Maximus after that. Can you show 1/4 simmies in the foundations simmie shows or do they have to be 1/2 bloods.

Speaking of Grizzly, I have yet to see a calf or pictures of  a calf out of him.  Anybody have any experience with him or calf pictures???
I really like the way  the bull looks and his outcross pedigree and have considered using him on our half bloods.

Thanks for the input.

The Grizzly cattle that we have had and seen have all been really smooth made and stylish. They all have that "maternal" look to them. Clean jointed, deep flanked with some rib. Only had 6 ourselves and have seen close to 20-25 more, but they have all been very similar in type and kind.
All of ours were out of at least 1/2 blood simmis
