What to breed her to????
« on: November 13, 2013, 07:00:10 AM »
I'd like some opinions about what I should breed this girl to next. She is a naughty pine x alias. She is bred now for for her first calf to exciting Ali due march 16. I want a clubby made calf but she only stands 44 inches tall and weighed 1040 when I took her to fair. The pictures are pretty recent but she's lost some weight since I showed her. I just want to see what other people would use on her. Thanks for reading and comments.

Is she a THC?
If not, try solid gold. He isn't a big calver and should give you a quality calf regardless of sex. Don't think she is good enough fronted for Dr.who, not because she is bad fronted but bc dr.who needs used on a zipper fronted cow.

Thank you for the comments. I'd really like to try to get color out of her I just don't know about her height. When I took her to fair one judge knocked on her because he said she was too fat and the other judge said she was too short. So should I use a bull with a larger frame size so the calf is hopefully taller than 44 inches?

i think this is the perfect example of a cow that i-80 would work on. He would clean up the front end and add a bit of frame

I would not count on 1-80 to clean up a front end.  I know that he does for many.  That was definitely not the case here.  Structure was an issue on the ones of ours that bothered to live.  Their hocks touch when they walk and I have never, ever had a cow that does that.

Have you measured her pelvis?  What kind of room does she have?

Do you know if she is a carrier?

What do you mean by "bothered to live"? Also too, sometimes certain crosses just do not work. Sorry yours didn't.

Ejoe326--no I don't have any measurements on her or her th status. Sorry I meant to when she was young but never got around to doing it.

so that means you are not going to read it?  her pone fat and your one judge says she was too fat.  i am trying to give you a reference that may temper your consequences of getting her in fat steer condition.  but i guess you don't need to know that.

I didn't mean to sound rude its just that I did take her to fair as a market heifer but then couldn't put her on the truck because I saw too much potential in her to become hamburger. So yes she did have extra weight on her than most people would like for a breeding heifer.
