I'd like some opinions about what I should breed this girl to next. She is a naughty pine x alias. She is bred now for for her first calf to exciting Ali due march 16. I want a clubby made calf but she only stands 44 inches tall and weighed 1040 when I took her to fair. The pictures are pretty recent but she's lost some weight since I showed her. I just want to see what other people would use on her. Thanks for reading and comments.

Is she a THC?
If not, try solid gold. He isn't a big calver and should give you a quality calf regardless of sex. Don't think she is good enough fronted for Dr.who, not because she is bad fronted but bc dr.who needs used on a zipper fronted cow.

Thank you for the comments. I'd really like to try to get color out of her I just don't know about her height. When I took her to fair one judge knocked on her because he said she was too fat and the other judge said she was too short. So should I use a bull with a larger frame size so the calf is hopefully taller than 44 inches?

i think this is the perfect example of a cow that i-80 would work on. He would clean up the front end and add a bit of frame

I would not count on 1-80 to clean up a front end.  I know that he does for many.  That was definitely not the case here.  Structure was an issue on the ones of ours that bothered to live.  Their hocks touch when they walk and I have never, ever had a cow that does that.

Have you measured her pelvis?  What kind of room does she have?

Do you know if she is a carrier?

What do you mean by "bothered to live"? Also too, sometimes certain crosses just do not work. Sorry yours didn't.

Ejoe326--no I don't have any measurements on her or her th status. Sorry I meant to when she was young but never got around to doing it.

Knabe--what do you mean that I might want to read that link?

Well I'm happy with how she looks and that she's gonna be a good steer mama thanks though

so that means you are not going to read it?  her pone fat and your one judge says she was too fat.  i am trying to give you a reference that may temper your consequences of getting her in fat steer condition.  but i guess you don't need to know that.

I didn't mean to sound rude its just that I did take her to fair as a market heifer but then couldn't put her on the truck because I saw too much potential in her to become hamburger. So yes she did have extra weight on her than most people would like for a breeding heifer.

I'm trying to warn you that animals that put too much fat in their reproductive areas is not good for fertility or milk. I'm trying to warn you don't be too disappointed if she does t milk or breed on the same interval.

The article is very informative.

I'd use i80. Her build and topside pedigree are along the lines of what i80 clicks with for a clubby show calf. I'm not garenteeing that it will be a 10k baby on the tit, but there is too much of an upside on that mating not to atleast try it.

I think this is a problem in the clubby world, too many market heifers coming back home to TRY and be cows. They are market heifers for a reason.I'm not trying to be rudeor hurt your feelings, but some just weren't meant to be cows. I am just as guilty for bringing market type heifers home to breed, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

you really do need to get her TH Tested. I agree with a lot of the people on her that getting heifers fat is a major no no because they are hard to calve and usually don't milk well, that's why we usually stop showing our heifers in may ( breeding season). Nevertheless, all that's already been done and is hindsight now so you got to move on. I don't blame you for wanting to get a calf out of her. 44 inches is small though, real small IMO. her genetics doesn't have one calving ease thing in them so you need to pay attention to that. I think I read that your wanting a good colored steer or something of that sort. I think she already has the power you need for a steer, you need to look at what you want to change ( more depth, cleaner front, and frame) all while being calving ease because I think you could run into a train wreck in a hurry with her. I still like the Direct Whiskey on her. I know the guy who bred DW and I think his program would match up great on her. I-80 could work, although like people said theres a chance that he may not. You might consider an Angus bull on her like Eagle Eye or Big Softy or an old school angus we used a lot that actaully through really stylish calves, the old bull called Grizz. You could also put the Ringer or Jesse James ( not sure about the fronts and depth). We took a chance and bred our heifers this year to Maternally Yours a bull that I really love from his looks to his pedigree. he just isn't proven calving ease but I can let you know how they come by the end of feb, but remember a live black calf is worth more than a dead peach steer. With her color you always stand a chance of color. I would breed her to a calving ease or close to a calving ease bull until she proved she can have two calves without being pulled cut up or stitched up. JMO
