A market heifer is intended for market, and a breeding heifer is intended for- wait for it- breeding.  With how fat she is you better hope the baby doesn't come out 110 pound. Just my opinion.

Calve her out and see how she responded=then you will have a better idea of what might work,and there would be plenty of options-including shorthorns which work great with that type of breeding-clean up the front-etc. Nay sayers would say a Short will ad enuff hardoing to the mix to meet a happy medium-just depends-Kris Black sure made good ones that way-out of females bred something like her. Her fertility is in question at this point, especially with her condition combined with pedigree. Do you want to flush her or just try to get a first calf out of her

She is a very attractive heifer that looks very tight-wound and probably needs a bull with a lot of flex. She should add the bone and stoutness.

You just need to play it safe and use a calving ease bull and not clubby the first time.

if  I read correctly she is bred to Ali for her first calf.  you are asking about breeding her for her 2nd.  With that being the case, try Afterhours.  THF/PHAF Irish Whiskey x Dr Who/Imprint.  We bred all our clubby cows that way including cows coming with their 2nd calf.  The heifer pictured is an Afterhours x Naughty Pine that we recently sold.  He should add length of body, a tick of frame and really loosen her up on structure.

Sandy if only I knew the secret to making all breeding decisions work!

Our I-80s flat out did not want to live.  They had no vigor.  They were not born into mud and left in the cold.  They were in the calving barn and treated exactly the same as the other calves that wanted to live.

Good luck with your heifer OP.  Let us know how it goes.

So interesting and weird all at the same time. I was thinking of breeding our heifer next year to I80 since he is LBW and I have seen so many nice calves out of him. So I am glad to know this so I can weight additional options.

for her first calf, all you need to worry about is her getting through that experience safely.
Milkman will kill her, Hannibal is not heifer safe....she is pretty small and she needs a guaranteed calving
ease sire for her very first calf.  The first calf sets your cow up for the rest of her productive life.

Go for a safe experience for the first baby.

thank you Sizzler; I hadn't read it well enough....
second calf cows also need a somewhat easy calving experience.

We have had a number of I-80 calves and they have been fine;
good vigor, does add some frame as stated.

Mercedes Benz is also a nice calver.

I would suggest Gigolo Joe or GVC Special Delivery for her second calf, and I like the idea of Hannibal for subsequent calves.
