What to breed this heifer to ?
« on: February 22, 2012, 08:28:47 PM »
Just wondering what would be a good suggestion on this BC Lookout x 3C Macho halfblood heifer. Shes very deep and soft made , dont have a current picture yet as i sold her earlier this fall and now shes coming back home. Second picture is her 3C Macho x Dream On dam. Lookin for a heifer calf out of her. Either a Simmy bull or a halfblood ? Thanks.

sweet looking hfr and momma cow!!! I would love to see a calf out of your hfr and GCC Whizard!! I know his calves havent been proven yet but they will be falling soon and maybe a few already. i like the looks and pedigree of whizard.

So you're looking for calving ease? The bulls I use on my heifers are Grandmaster, Trademark, Built Right, In Dew Time, Shear Force and his son Added Value here soon. I have also used Olie, but he makes a more maternal look. She seems like she has enough depth to make a killer Grandmaster calf. A halfblood that I like is Mo Magic, and I have heard many good things about The Foreman. Both are most likely ones you would want to use after her first calf. I like Grandmaster for her and Built Right or IDT if you don't mind the close Dream On.

I may have it all wrong, but I'm not sold on using the same bulls everybody else in the country is using. Sure...they'll make some good ones if they're used on enough cows... I have to think there are plenty of bulls out there that will make some good ones that everybody else won't be trying to sell the same time I'm trying to sell my calves! I do like the Olie calves, and I like my Added Values so far. I'll definitely look at Olie on our heifers this spring. And I really like him on Angus and SimAngus cattle. Prob wait & see what Added Value's numbers do now... I'm intrigued by Sharper Image for a half blood. And the Rookies I've seen are pretty decent. If you might be interested in a baldy bull, check out PRS Blazin' Hot...his first calves look really good. They're good production cattle...not really show ring oriented if that's what you want, though.

I used Sharper Image this past December breeding cows. I only used him on a handful.

TNT Dual Focus is my go to CE bull. 2 years and haven't assisted a single heifer bred to him. By her looks Shear Force would probably work, but because he's deceased I don't know what the price of his semen is now. Maybe a Shear Force son?

ONe of my favorite females that is consistent for us is a 3 C Macho cow out of WMWx Angus cow. Love her. She is a great mom and extremely fertile and we bred her back to northern Improvement and she had a phenomenal heifer who is now due to Dream On. So... with all that said. WMW might be a good choice. Female looks sound. Just a thought.

I know he is only a 1/4 simmi but I would like to see a Limestone Trifecta out of her. <party>

A really great Shear Force son is Hooks Pacesetter. We have a female that has had two calves, and she is good!
How come I never hear of anyone using Oval F Ringleader? He seems to have some good ones out there that run some of the big shows and do well... just wondering. I have admired his heifers many times.

Thanks for the replys. Heres the deal , shes coal black and half angus , her mommas coal black and pb simmy. Now with her mother being a Macho which is a Meyer would one want to be careful of  too much white coming through in her calves if bred to a baldy ??? Say for instance Built Right or some others ? Or am i pretty safe on this one ???

Well, Macho is a spot carrier, so her dam could carry spots and so could she. Just depends on how much of a risk taker you are and how much you might wanna try to make a baldy out of her.

You might consider Poison Arrow - not sure how much Simm the offspring would be:

Ill have to get a more current picture of her up. Depth is not a problem , she really bellied down lately. Could use a touch more frame size but I have to be careful there. Really lookin for a baldy heifer calf out of her. Seeing some different suggestions , some I really like !
