Interesting matings folks.

I thought I would take some time to think about my dream matings, and here is what all I have come up with so far.

Here is some line breeding ideas that I came up with:

WO Dividend 3J (The original Leggs)  X Rose T90

Dividend X Rose T90

This next line breeding idea that I came up with is 3 generations of Improver line breeding which includes Rose T90 twice.  All 3 of these Improver related sires are TH Clean of course:

NPS Durango 774 CBH  X  NPS Improver's Stride  X  Guinness

Here are some old school genetics:

Super Flag  X  Four Point Major

Here is something else different I came up with:

Guinness  X  Rose T90

Almost forgot this one.

Here's an old idea that Merle Welch at Green Ridge Shorthorns came up with a few years ago.  I don't think it ever happened for some reason.

WO Dividend 3J (Leggs)  X  Green Ridge DP Mary 9434

I think many of my Dream matings have already been mentioned. I am a big fan of sonny females. Pretty much Sonny on anything in the shorthorn breed.

Hey Shorthorn_Junkie,

What if you Bred Green Ridge DP Mary 9434 to Duke Of Dublin? I might expect super tankers that cause us to widen the gates for them to make it through!

For heifers, I would say WAG Harietta and Meyer 734 or Who Made Who.  For steers, I would like to use WAG Harietta on Habenero, SunSeeker, and Heat Wave.  Pretty much a fan of WAG Harietta....  I also like Wonder cows, checks in the mail cows, Bad moon Rising cows,  Improver 57, Cumberland cows and many more... Just depends on what I am breeding for.

If jakes proud jazz lowers bwt's as well as it sounds like he does.....it sounds like for that reason only...it should be mandatory to breed every shorthorn cow in the world to him.I hate to say that but I think its the truth. He is defect free...red...polled...(could he be homo polled)? Darn it it just makes sense. It's funny sometimes how a bull in in the backwoods is found to be great ones. There are alot of good unpromoted cattle out there in the boonies.

AJ , don't mean to split hairs but he's roan & he definitely won't work on every Shortie out there. Shortdawg has seen as many Jazz calves as anybody & I'll think he'll back me up here that it takes a decent size cow to produce a calf with any size to perform.

I personally love the Heat Wave x Frye 602 mating which is Invincible.

But my dream mating...(my sister and I have been trying to talk our dad into this) is CF Myrtle Bo x Heat Wave. I wish we could have some Shorthorn Plus's by that!!! I don't think our dad will let us do that though :)

The performance issue is why we never used him. I heard of way to many calves that weren't growing at all.

I think JPJ is a breeding piece, and shouldn't be over-used. So was Rodeo Drive. BW needs to be toned down a bit. It's not the 115-pounders taht grow like gang-busters that alarms me. It's the 145+ BW calves that absolutely no 1300-pound cow can have that are gonna sink us.

Red,

As you know Cette-La was the first Maine fullblood flushed in North America and quite possibly the world.  She had a very correct udder and was as thick as anything.  She was only flushed once and I don't think ever bred back and know that she was never produced any eggs again via flushing.  Cowboy may have some insight here, but I personally think they cooked her female parts trying to get it right.  To my recollection, Harold Beinsch had 10 recips ready, eight eggs settled and this is the part that made some people sick...there were like 32 viable embryos and no way to freeze them or cows to put them in.  The number of eggs on the first flush leads me to believe they fried her.

Anyway, I think she moderated Epinal and with Cunia what he was, shawhammm, I sure think that would have been good.  Other than those sired by Epinal, there was one other bull that I know of that came from her.
