Just thought I'd get some input on what you might breed these two heifers to?  The first is our Vortec X Myrtle Bo and the Char is a Dr Who X a Wyoming Wind daughter.

I'd breed the Shorthorn to Gizmo or Wymore if the cost on his daddy bothers you at all. And I'd breed the Smoke to Gigolo Joe.

You might have Freddy comment a little further, I believe He's had good luck on Char heifers withthe Bull Success!

I would go with either JPJ or a son of his.  Also ArSuLu Osage or Massive.  Also have you considered breeding her to a angus?  We are using final answer on all of our heifers this year.

Don't know much about the Horn.  We are going to breed our Char cross heifer to the Charolais bull MT/LTS  Lead On.  She also goes bsack to Wyoming Wind and a WMW x Angus cow.  We had a Lead On out of a pure bred Char heifer this year and really like her.  Came at 68 lb.s and looks cool and deep and thick for being out of a first calf heifer.  I will try to snap a few pics this weekend if we get time.  Lead On is also the sire of Kris Blacks Troubador bull. <cowboy>

Thanks for the input guys!!  I've been thinking I might use JPJ on the Vortec heifer and Money Man on the Char but I'm still giving it some thought.  I'll have to decide on the Vortec pretty quick as we're putting a CIDR in her today.

I would suggest Northern Improvement for the Charolais heifer.  We have used him on Maine cross heifers and they were in the 60-70 lb. range.  If you want to stay with the Charolais deal, I saw several nice Yellow Jacket calves at Kris Black's.  I would probably wait until her second calf to try that.

I would breed the char to Nighty Night or an angus bull, I know jbw on here has had good luck with morgans direction for an angus bull.  We had 3 Nighty nights this year.  Two out of heifers and one out of a small second calver.  One went 295 and weighed 86 pounds unassisted,  one at 284 and weighed 68 lbs, and one at 282 that weighed 79lbs out of a real small second calf heat seeker cow.  Here is a picture of the nighty night out of a taz first calf heifer ( this is the one that went 295) pictured a little over a month old.

I really like Gizmo and think if you can get one stuck the 100 investment is worth it. Jake's Proud Jazz would work on her as well. THe CHarlois heifer, I think Freddy mentioned some Charlois calving ease bulls. If you wanted to increase the percentages use Charlois. I really like NOrthern Improvement on just about anything.

Thanks for all your ideas guys!  By the way, I got Myrtle Bo home yesterday from Westwood and we now have 6  TM Gus X Myrtle Bo sexed embryos for sale and 6 Vortec X Myrtle Bo embryos for sale.  The Vortec's would be full sibs to the Shorthorn heifer pictured below.

I'm liking the idea of GUS on that shorty heifer, the char x i think has enough crossbreeding in her that a good angus would provide max hybrid vigour, either way you choose still nice heifers.By the looks of everything you post, it must not be hard to get out of bed and go to the barn, always nice cattle.Have you ever tried MYRTLE BO with a more old school maine? i think that would be cool.

Hey Romax,

You must be reading my mind!!  We're planning to breed Myrtle to K&A Kasanova for her natural calf this year.  She should cyle near the end of the month so, hopefully,  we'll be breeding her for an early Feb calf.  Our thought is to breed the superior maternal lines of Myrtle Bo one of the top maternal lines in the Maine breed.  Should make for an intriguing cross fo 2010!!

If you feel like rolling the dice on a steer/bull prospect or heifer with pedigree try Orange Crush (THC) ( Heatwave/Wyoming Wind daughter ) on the Char - those Wyoming Wind cattle are pretty good - could also get some cool color. JPJ or Gus on the Shorty.
